Settingsteel,

this is one of the best how to mamba pictorials (I see no point in doing it all over again):

MAMBIZAR UN NEUMATICO

Mullins, as a future SL100 Mamba owner you may want to have a look at this test report:

http://www.bluworld.com/test/SL70mamba.pdf

BTW: I hope you ordered some spare sealing cylinders (and extra shafts) with the Mamba kit. The plastic sealing cylinder that comes with the kit is prone to wear and so is a consumable part of the system.

You can prolong the life of the plastic cylinder by inserting another o-ring (preferably a flat one) between the sealing cylinder and the ss ring at the end of the shaft. Alternatively, there is the kara-yo ss cylinder which is compatible with the original Mamba muzzle and will probably outlast the life of all other parts

-> Price of the original Maori plastic cylinder ('kit tenuta asta'), if ordered as a spare part (one of them is included in the Mamba kit): EUR 20
-> Price of the ss cylinder made by master kara-yo: EUR 25

Cheers,
ulysses

Re: MAMBA 101...for dummies

Thanks Ulysses. One thing that bothers me a bit is the diameter of that slider that goes on the spear. It's pretty wide, you must effectively be pushing a 10mm spear through the water...?

Obviously, the sealing cylinder/slider on the spear of an original Mamba creates some drag (IMO: no worries about speed & penetration on a Mamba kitted airgun ). In order to avoid that drag kara-yo created the Tovarich system which is best from a pure hydrodynamic point of view. However, it also has its downsides.

Shaft comparison pic Tovarich / Mamba / standard:

Well, that's fairly uncomplicated:

1. Unscrew the shaft butt
2. Remove everything from the original shaft (ss ring, spring, slider), unless it's a Devoto shaft
3. Install in the following order:
3.1 Devoto slider (for line attachment)
3.2 shaft o-ring
3.3 Maori slider (sealing cylinder)
3.4 additional o-ring (to prevent premature breaking of the Maori slider)
3.5 Maori ss ring
4. Screw shaft butt back on (use teflon tape or appropriate glue on the thread first)

Cheers,
ulysses

Re: MAMBA 101...for dummies

LOL thx Ulysses, Does that apply to all kits or just mamba?
As i was under the impression with other kits u need to removoe the shaft butt completely and then somehow prevent the slider from coming off after u fire it.

It applies to the mamba-kit and all mamba-clones (kara-yo karamba [line attachment & sealing slider is one piece], poseidon, etc.)

Only the kara-yo tovarich does not have a slider on the shaft and no shaft butt (pic posted above). On the tovarich the line is attached directly to the shaft (hole in the front, approx. 10cm below the flopper).

Cheers,
ulysses

Re: MAMBA 101...for dummies

OK got it thx da'Fox....

Is it necessary to replace the muzzle ( you call it a piston or is the Muzzle & Piston to different animals?) that is, can the mamba seal be made for a cyranos muzzle or do I need to make a muzzle too.

OK if I make the muzzle what do I need to incorporate into the muzzle.
The reason I'm trying to get into the "nitty-gritty" is here

Cousy and all others looking for a Mamba set up in U.S. I too have encountered a similiar situation...I just posted a thread in same section Mamba for dummies...to analyze the mech, and hopefully manufacturer a mamba system locally, since my line or work as an ID might facilitate the process..I'm hoping with the info gathered it will be do-able
