What would be a good spear tip for a spear pole when going into kelp for blues or anything in Santa Cruz. Would a Trident tip be good i hear it stuns the fish but if it's to big the fish will wiggle off and die without being in my stomach.
 I would love to hear some reviews. Thanks

I am not a big fan of the trident tip. While it is great for small fish, I feel that it really lacks holding power on large or tough fish. Personally, I would recommend a tricut tip with a single flopper. This is what I use, except mine is a rock point being as i usually use my polespear around rocks and reefs. If you aren't likely to be hitting rocks often, the tricut will penetrate better. I feel as though the double floppers are just too heavy, slow, and don't penetrate well.
If you are still worried about fish breaking off, you can try a spinner tip. I have found this unnecessary, and I don't know how much more holding power it actually provides. A buddy of mine has a breakaway tip. It works great. It is very thin and quick, but also expensive. My personal recommendation is to go with the single barb tricut tip. You can get one really cheap...about six dollars. The breakaway tip is great but will cost much more. Get one of these if thr first one doesn't work.

GET A GUN and never look back. The pole spears are good for perch and really small stuff but if you want to shoot real fish it is much much easier to get a gun. You could find a gun for a little more than a quality pole spear will cost ya. And it never fails that the first time you go out with that pole spear you will see something big (or descent rather) and it won't hold on pole spear and it will just make you mad. I've been there done that.

thanks for all the info.
I have a gun. Though my friends just use spear poles and aren't the most accurate spearmen. So i was looking for something that has a bigger radius of hitting the fish. Thanks for the info.
