Best bet is to call the DNR buddy...alot of the US is confined to only spearing rough fish though...I freakin hate that...makes me glad to live on the coast though.

yeah its legal for fish other than gamefish. That leaves you with panfish(bream, sunfish, cappie, ect) and roughfish(gar, carp, catfish, ect) Lots of guys hunt freshwater in Louisiana, check the helldivers site(www.helldivers.org) they have a link to Louisiana spearfishing records and it shows the freshwater records as well.

Re: Freshwater fishing

Friends,

Arkansas is a great kept secrect. Freshwater spearfishing is Leagal for game fish. Yesterday I took a limit of walleye. It is increasingly under fire from sport line fishermen. This I don't understand. Line fisherman kill more fish, waste more fish and kill bait fish to take the fish they kill... dunno.???? think they have a whole lot of killing going on there. Hehe.. As spear fisherman we have to be sure that the game we take, we consume, and the game we take are within the limits of the law... For those interested in sport spearfishing you can blog me for the references to the Game and Fish of Arkansas. Three lakes stand out as above the rest. Ouchita, Northfork and Bull Shoals! These lakes have visability ranging from 0 to 30 feet. visability is best in the early spring and fall. I can also refer some guides if anyone is interested. Unlike reef fishing freshwater spearfishing is highly mobile moving from structure to structure.

PS... not far from LA

Denny
