FHOFs again

Better late than never.

I promised last weekend to post the profiles from my D3, where I was 'rescued' using the FHOF system.

There are 3 profiles, taken over both days. The weight of the diver ( me, including lead ) was 70 Kg. Water temperature 5 degrees C.

The first profile is not using the FHOF - it's just a 30 metre dive using fins, and is included here for comparison:

2nd dive is being rescued by FHOF from 30 metres:

Make quite interesting reading Mark - 10secs or so to attach FHOF at 30m and then 20secish ascent compared to 30 sec ascent using fins.... (assuming I've read the profiles correctly???)

The only thing I thought about the other day is if, god forbid, the system was ever used in a real situation, the freediver will presumably be pretty panicky. How would/can the Angel prevent the freediver grabbing hold and pulling him/her up on the FHOF as well? Just a thought......

Hi Donna

Actually the deployments were a little more than 10 seconds, but the deploying divers were doing this for the first time ( under training ), and were doing this in cold water at the end of their dives.

The scenario you've described is an unlikey one. The most likely real deployment will be for an unconcious freediver. A panicked freediver will be bolting for the surface under their own steam, unless they are tangled / trapped. If they are tangled / trapped, then the FHOF would not be used until they were freed up.

The safety scuba divers should be putting their own safety first, but I'm not really the best person to comment on this.

Oops. The last post was from me, not Laura. I was working on her laptop and forgot I was logged in under her name.

Thx Mark. You're right, the scenario is an unlikely one, particularly if its an unconscious freediver they're sending up... It was just one of those what if thoughts that popped into my head.

Enjoy your weekend..
