Monofin training with Finswimmers

I will try and set up something at Chepstow one weekend - but in the meantime if you can make Swansea on a Friday night, this might be of interest

Sam

We have noticed that more and more freedivers are using monofins. We have been asked to help in developing monofin technique amongst finswimmers by various members of the British Freediving Association, so we are contacting as many people as we can to tell them where they can get help with their technique from qualified finswimming coaches in the UK.

If you or any of your colleagues and students would like to learn about monofin technique, they would be welcome to come and join in with the SwanSeaDragons Finswimming Club training sessions at the National Pool of Wales, Swansea, on Friday nights at 7:30 pm. The sessions cost £4 a time. The sessions are taken by a BFA level 3 (National Coach) and a BFA level 1 coach. The club has a new batch of club monofins as well.

There are already some freedivers that come to the sessions, including some that have been involved in competitions in the past. I know that Sam has come to sessions in the past, when our only training session was at the pool in Penlan. We now have a session at the national pool as well (which is much better). The club attracts members from all sorts of sports, including competitive lifesaving and spearfishing. Two of the lifesavers in the club have been selected for the GB squad for the European lifesaving championships this month and four of our finswimmers have been preselected for the GB team for the World finswimming in July.

If you know anyone else that might be interested, then please pass this on to them. My contact details are email (alaric DOT finswimming AT gmail.com) . People can just turn up, if they can't get a response. If anyone wants to find out more about finswimming, the websites for the British Finswimming Association are British Finswimming Association Home Page (NB no www) and www.finswimming.co.uk.

All the best,

Alaric Smith
