who do you support?

hi all

o.k., now i know who's got good chances of winning each event, but what about all those unknown guys/girls?

do you have a friend or dive buddy who is competing in cyprus who might be interesting to watch?

i support the following:

bevan dewar, south africa: i dived with the bloke in thailand earlier this year and his performances were quite outstanding. repetitive 40m dives with extended bottom times (wasn't much deeper there).
i could imagine he is good for 60-70m and statics of +7min. he recently mailed me some training results for statics which would put him next to nitsch and stepanek (but i don't tell). plus a cool guy who is really into the sport.

mathias ahlen, sweden: dived with him and lotta in april. he managed to increase his pb from 40m to +55m in 2 weeks. all easy and relaxed. fun to hang around with and very supportive.

wolle neugebauer, germany: black cressis, 60m, no mouthfill equalising. a judge watching this guy recover from a dive would most likely disqualify him. i hope he sorts his grimacing out in time.
a full on dude with lots of energy.

and from the egyptian team: amr maghrabi and ashod papazian: didn't dive much with them, they were socialising a lot with the chicks on the beach. and one day ashod decided to let go of his c4's in the blue hole (90m at the bottom). bad mistake.
a very entertaining duo.

everyone impressed me not just with their diving but also with friendship and fun and good times.

i'll be cheering for you all!

Roland,

Your absolutely right.

There are going to be some surprises here I think. I haven't got any official stats yet but there are at least 2 "unknown" divers who have a good shot at being ranked very highly in static.

Lets see!

PS. met a friend of yours today (don't ask me his name, can't remember) who borrowed my laptop to download his dives onto from his suunto.

sorry andrew

but since i don't know how that might affect his performance i rather not tell.
i might after the comp, or, of course, you pm him.

the point of this thread is to get to hear of a few other competitors who someone thinks might be worth paying attention to.

cheers

Hi Roland,

The competition was great, really nice to meet everyone, but unfortally I got a cold on the airplane to Cyprus and have been sick for 2 weeks.

Anyway it was nice to se Mathias Lanner do 71 meters and break the Swedish record (66m) in CW, he almost broke the Dynamic record (134m) as well but had a little samba att 150 meters.

Now I just have to find a job so that I can come and visit you and Egypt again.

Regards Mathias Ahlen
