thanks Ron, Just got in from the bay - The fish are all out in deeper water now so it's a long swim and COLD!! Mid-low forties with spectacular visibility.

Our lake temps aren't that low yet, but will be in a month or two. The difference is, even Lake Tahoe pales in comparison to the scenery of your lakes!

OK., my Omer T-20, my Wong and even my Rob ALLEN 130 doesn't have the spring at their line release............but never had to move it with my hand in order to load the gun...........maybe is the way I use to load it, pointing it down or something.
Any way......Wong, Rob Allen and Omer are very good guns, I have landed a lot of fish and no big problems.

The Omers have a fancy Italian lever-thingy. It loads up the line release when you put the shaft in.

This is hardly a big deal for me. Riffe didn't add that return spring until a couple of years ago, and I was using his guns without it with no problem. Alexander mechanisms still don't have a spring.

Its a nice touch, but hardly anything I would base a choice of guns on.
Spear-line release springs must be the latest spear-gun fashion feature. I notice my replacement RA trigger mech now has a return spring in the line release. Previously it depended on gravity - probably fine with the heavier stainless steel line release but, with wear, the plastic one could sometimes stick, making it impossible to load the spear into the mech.

The new mechs. have other enhancements too - they are continually improved.

Re: Riffe v. Wong v. Rob Allen

I was told just yesterday that Riffe had quit using the return spring in the line release.
