Riffe euro speed/power

Hey guys. I bought a riffe euro 120 used. It was a pretty good deal, but it came with two shafts, which werent the original 17/64". They are both 9/32". The overall length is around 65". I was wondering what i should use to power them. They originally have 2 29" 5/8 bands. I shortened them to 27", but at range, they still are too slow. I was wondering what i should use now. It seems to shoot low, and too slow. It is ok to about 10', but i got this gun to feel good about 15' shots. Please help me tweak this sweet gun. Thanks

Dude! you need to change those to 9/32 or back to 17/64, what are you fishing for

Seriously I guess you mean 9/32 shafts? The gun should be OK there is very little difference between the 17/64 amd 9/32. You could try using 2 x 18mm bands or even 2 x 3/4 but keeping them a little long and see how you go from there.

To check for bends: Roll the shaft along a flat surface and check for wobble of sight along it whilst turning it looking for a variation in the sag. If something shows up then it is bent.

Well first congrats for the euro riffe, it is a very beautiful, reliable and powerful gun indeed.

I am not very familiar with the american measure system, but I did a quick conversion, and the 9/16 shaft that you mentioned means a 14.28mm shaft ?!? I am very surprised man like why would you need a 14mm shaft? I was even wondering if a 14mm shaft can lock in place properly in the euro riffe mechanism ?

Anyway, what I like about the euro is its deadly accuracy and speed with its standard setup, that is 2 * 16mm (5/8) bands and 6.75mm shaft... With this setup, you should get at least + 20' shots with the 120cm speargun model...

Maybe for heavier shafts, you could use 3 * 5/8 bands, as I think the trigger mechanism is still strong enough to handle the strain. However, the issue is that it's very hard to accomodate 3 5/8 bands in the tight muzzle area... If that doesn't work, then may'be 2 * 18mm or 2 * 20mm bands, or like 1band 18mm and 1band 20mm combined could do the work.

But again are you sure it is 9/16 shaft or it is a 5/16 (which is 7.9mm, or almost 8mm?)

Btw in what conditions will you be mostly hunting? and what species are you targeting?

Oops... shaft size corrected. They are both 9/32". I would like to try 18mm bands, but all i can get a hold on here is 14, 16, and 20mm. I have read that the 18 is the most efficient.

I am also going to replace the barb and see how that works out.

The conditions i am diving varies from 20-40'. Visibility is not usually a problem. I would like the range for jacks and parrotfishes.

Oh... and for anyone wondering... riffe euros can take the standard size shafts with either a square notch or the euro curve. The American shafts may need to be files down on top

9/32 i guess then means a 7.1mm shaft? And does the shaft comes with large shark fins? Coz if so, then you can easily fit 3bands in it

Since u don't have 18mm bands, then I think if it's possible to fit 3 * 16mm bands in the muzzle, then go for it. Otherwise, put the 2 * 20mm bands (but im not sure if any1 here use this combination)....

Anyway, try to shot on immobile targets (e.g: shooting in a swimming pool against targets) using the combination of 3 16mm bands and 2 20mm bands and see if the shaft is dropping too early, or if it's overpowered etc...

the riffe euro can handle up to two 3/4" bands. its a solid gun. i put two 11/32"(18mm) bands on mine and it shoots great. i stoned a 20lbs fish from around 20 feet. spear went in just above the eye. i still feel i could shorten em up a bit or even go to the 3/4". the mech and teak can definetely handle it. the three 5/8" would be interesting as well. i think you'd need a different shaft though. this is a great gun and it shoots best when powered up a bit. i had the same problem with the stock bands at first.

Ditch the lager shaft.
Rig it with a 17/64'' (6.75mm) shaft and two 5/8'' (16mm) bands. The gun will be a lazer.

I talked to Jay Riffe about the 3/4'' bands. And he told me it would not be a good choice. The gun will be better off with two 5/8'' bands.

i've got two 18mm's on mine and it shoots like a laser with more juice. you're supposed to be able to get serious range out of the riffe euro and that won't happen with two 16mm. the gun was designed to be able to handle up to two 3/4" bands so don't be afraid to experiment up to that limits. afterall why would you pay the extra $ for the teak and riffe mech if you were going stick with 2 16mms. you could try shortening the 16mm's of course but if you're a real man you'll get thicker bands. get bulk and tie them yourself. do a little searching on the net and you'll be able to find whatever thickness you desire. good luck.
