Candle or dental wax in the back and front will do the trick... Seals and it creates a tight fit when you slide it onto the spear. Soften the wax slightly and press it into the openings.
Why do you want one though, chances are that when a shark does attack you you wont have time to put it on, if that is what you want it for.
Rather get a Shark Sheild...

Re: who seels single use powerheads that slide onto end of spear?

press the wax in the front and back of what?, got any pics or diagrams? I need more info. the wax sounds good, I am seeing possibilities, but I would rather skip the testing phases and just buy one I thinik. I see you are from south africa. that probably explains your views on sharks. 16 ft great whites coming straight at you from below doesnt require powerheads, (too little too late) here in florida we have a lot of bull sharks,(especially on the gulf of mexico side of key west!)you call them zambesi sharks I think. they come around and wont leave. Last year we were chased out of the water by a 8 / 9 footer,(3 meters) I only happened to swim up to my partner after a long day of spearing at Western dry Rocks,(11 miles off KW)he was taking a fish off his spear when bull shark came through the cut from behind him, I cuold see the sharks body language change as he made his first pass at my freinds back, immediately lowering fins acting jerky. I swam directly at him and got in between shark and freind. he kept circling, trying to approach from rear , twitching

I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it dont worry, i like sharks, as long as they bstay at least 10 feet away from me, we are good.I tell you I would like to use one to cull the population of goliath groupers, but I wont. just protection

shark shields work with bloody fish in hand? I dont believe it . I think a key west nurse shark would try to eat the damn thing!!!!!! They wont give up! I shoved my spear tip 1/2 inch intol the nose and it just kept coming! I dint even have a fish! ju7st the smell on my gloves and spear was enough!

Re: who seels single use powerheads that slide onto end of spear?

Ray Odor spears have a threaded tip so that a standard PH will get a grip without pissing around with threaded shafts. Just stick it on the point and give it a turn and your good to cause mayhem

they have sharp points with threads? large ABBiller spears have threaded tips but they are dull,(made to accept new sharp tips)In my blue water hunting book by Terry Mass, he mentions that they make single use powerheads that slip onto end of spear for immediate use. I have a .223 caliber powerhead now but by the time I get out two sets of vise grips to pull off my tip I fear it would be too late. In some of the pictures in the book you can see what looks like a 12 inch piece of pvc tube, stuck in his belt. I'm not sure but I think that must be it. Once again I will probably have to build one. I just hope i dont shoot my eye out testing it.

Re: who seels single use powerheads that slide onto end of spear?

spearfishingworld sells powerheads in florida, you dont need to remove anything, you simply slide it over your spear....of course if you are using a threaded spar with tip, you have a problem, but if you are using a regular tahitian/hawaiian spear you just slide it on...
the other downside is that it fits 5/8 spears only, i guess you can adjust that though if you need it for thinner spears, you only have to change the rubber tube that fits on the spear to a thinner one...

Re: who seels single use powerheads that slide onto end of spear?

To make a powerhead you will need the following, a bullet that has a ridge on the end, shotgun and I think .38 handgun casings have these. Then you need a piece of ss roundbar about 10cm long, depending on the lenth of you ammo you plan to use. Now cut your bar so that one part is about 3cm longer than you ammo lenth, drill a hole down the centre that fits the casing nice and snugly. Mill another hole at the bottom that fits the ridge on the ammo, this should be about 2cm deep with a screw wire on the inside, your bullet fits into this hole with the ridge biting at the back of the hole milled through the bar, leaving the front of the bullet about 1cm from the front opening on your bar.
Now you need to mill the front of your other piece of bar to be able to screw into the part that fits the bullet. This part also gets a hole drilled down the middle that is slightly bigger (about 1mm) than the spear you will be using it on. Make sure the piece that slides over the spear tip does not reach the flopper before it touches the back of the bullet.
Insert bullet into front part and screw in the back bit that fits over the spear, you can add a bit of plumbers tape here to make sure it leak proof. Soften up a bit of wax and push it into the front of the powerhead to seal it and protect the copper tip on your ammo. Now push a piece of soft wax down the back hole, to fill about 1cm behind the bullet and voila youve made a powerhead. When you want to use it just slide it onto the spear pushing the tip into the wax, this helps to hold it in place but you allready have a nice fit so your spears velocity will hold the head in place.
Id test it before I rely on it though...
PS: were not allowed to have powerheads here in SA as its classified as a fire arm and we have very strict license requirements here. You cant even buy the ammo without a liscence for the specific gun. Your liscence also states your guns cerial numbers and all that so no powerheads for me allthough I would like to try one

Re: who seels single use powerheads that slide onto end of spear?

I just sold my main gun I had for 3 years that I had the powerhead mounted on the side of. Heres a couple pics.

I liked it better lke that, because even after I fired, I was still armed just in case.

And no, I aint paranoid. I have never had someone break into my house in the middle of the night and assault my family and take my belongings, and I'm not paranoid of it happening, but just in case, I still have a sawed off 12 gage leaned up againts my nite stand.

I just like the odds in my favor. Same underwater.
