Hey m8's,
I have been stalking up on some new gear (made a little extra cash) and I have a few questions to ask... 1) Have any of you ever used a coils shock cord? Looks like it would work and its 20ft long... take a look at the pic at the bottom... $18 I might give it a try 2) What are your favorite toys? I know every one has some little thing they feel makes the difference, what is it? Your gun? Fins? Mask? Rabbit foot? or some thing else (I probly don’t know about)... ![]() ![]() ![]() ItemLrgPicA6715.jpg

hahahaha, those shockchords suck so bad. Someone gave me a speargun once with one of those things on, and let me tell you, don't waste your money. As soon as you pull the trigger your accuracy is impaired (due to the shockchord tugging on your spear) and as soon as you reach the end of the chord it becomes a tangled mess. Bad idea.
however, they make great speargun leashes. I put a key ring on my handle, hooked my extra shockchord onto it, then a loop of rubber on the other end. Its great if you only need another ten feet or so to reach the surface but don't want to ditch your gun. I think my favorite toy is my JBL sliptip. I replaced the retarded steel cable with braided dacron that sits int the line hole with a knot keeping it from sliding off. its very sleek and keeps your fish on. |

i have a split tip, and agree 100%!! great tip and my Number one tip for reef/bay hunting although i have a homade version of the same tip that works a tad bit better the JBL Split Tip is the best on the market.

interesting. could you post some design specs? I think the only issue I have with the JBL is that is the "wings". They really seem to limit my range because you have to get the whole tip through the fish which requires a lot of power... shortening my bands helped, and I'll probably shorten them more as the vis gets better, but anything to reduce mass and drag sounds good to me.

i buy tip connectors, and make the tips.
i take a titanium alloy scrap (lighter), i make them rock point not bone spliters. and i shorten the whole thing by an inch... it works great for me and i keep a dimond file with me when diveing, so i can sharpen it if (when) i get a through shot or miss and hit a rock... cheap/easy/fast and work better than any store bought point... ill upload a pic tomorrow if i remember!
