well it's about time too!

I've had the pleasure of shooting and seeing many bass but never landed one over 3 Kilos in my spearing days. Five days ahead of my 30th birthday this year I ventured out with my kit and got the bass I've always seen but never been able to land.

I went out to one of my spots at 7pm in the evening and during my first aspetto see 4 small bass which set the tone for my dive. A little further while sinking to the bottom I spot a solitary 2.5 kilo bass swimming to my left and stop everything then go back to the surface to rethink what I'm doing and how I can profit the most from the proposed terrain I'm fishing on. The bass all seem to be feeding on the sand which a rocky point leads out to and I've already been greeted by several big bass at once while looking out onto the sand from the rocks here on previous dives.

I slowly fin my way to the limit between sand/rock and dived very carefully over the sand, while sinking into a rocky passage giving me a view out onto the sand from slightly above. Within a couple of seconds of having got into position a big bass appears from nowhere in the V shaped gap I'm looking out from with her back turned to me (looking for me on the sand where I made noise coming down!)

I got to admire it for a few seconds with its back turned to me before I shot it right behind the gills. It was turning around looking for me

14 years of spearing to land a +15 year old fish, I guess that's an even trade off?

here she is, 72cm and bang on the nose 4 kilos in weight, FINALLY!

Just to add, I've never been one for diving deep to catch my fish, this one was had in 3M depth.

cheers, a feeling like no other indeed. I was still looking at it laid out on one of my fins, almost in disbelief once ashore
