Is now a good time to add Andy Norlander to the list? Kona resident and PFI team member. He did 80 (the max allowed) on his first competition dive and five dives in six attempts 'to the sand' (83-84 depending on tide) in the last month or so. It will be interesting to see what he does in Cayman next month if he gets a little time off to rest.

![]() I remember that Andy drove up from California to volunteer at the 2004 Worlds in Vancouver. He was a really nice guy and I had no idea he had 80m+ in him. Fantastic!

Hehe Dave, indeed a very fast ascent
Maybe a true sprint fin is the way to go? Less bottom time means less narcosis, less nitrogen buildup, recovery? Anyway a nice idea to test out. I did a nice and speedy dive in Sweden, and indeed it feels great to 'fly' up, instead of creaping meter for meter... Anyway I'm always hungry for reports from The Vertical blue preperations and competiton. How is everybody ding down there? Kars

The extreme fast ascent may be a good idea, but you really would need to slow down somewhere around 25m to the surface to reduce DCS risk.

Sedate
In Andy's case, it's magic ears. He doesn't have to equalize, just open the E-tubes and go for the bottom. When he got to mask squeeze depth he switched to no mask and we'll have to wait to see how far that will take him. Then, in theory, when he removes the nose clip, equalization is removed as an obstacle a la Patrick Musimu. Wearing fins and mask is starting to look ancient.
