Hi, all of you good people. I have some questions for you about the way U prepare when you want to set a new PB of static apnea : 1) What is the full routine U use before giving it a shot ? 2) Do u do the same on dry and wet attempts or there are different preparations? 3) Do u do the same at competitions ? 4) Who often U try to do a PB ? thanks, Assaf |

I don't do much preparation before I do PB attempts in static... then again I haven't made that many PBs yet
But I added 38 sec to my PB yesterday 1) No special routine just before a PB attempt. I usually do light-to-mediumhard dynamic training (technique, intervals, length) for about an hour before, but that has nothing to do with preparing for the static. The static is just an add on. 2) I only do wet PB attempts. Because I suspect dry PBs come easier and then I would be disappointed with my wet static performance. I only do tables on the dry, though, because I can only do up to 4 breathholds in water without getting cold and start shivering, even with a wet suit and in a 34 degree celsius pool. My dry tables consist of 8 rounds of ventilation and breathhold. 3) Haven't been in a competition yet. 4) Until now: once a month. From now on: maybe twice a month |

Hi !
When I try to hit my PB in static (as well as in dynamic or any other), first - I give myself a few days brake from my every day training. Before the atempt I do some warm up and streching (especialy my chest). Then I do 2 negative statics (with passive exhale), one atempt without fighting too much (till 10 - 20 contractions), and then I go for my maximum attempt. My breath-up is: for about 3 minutes - deep fast inhales, 3-5 sec hold, very long and slow exhales, 3-5 fast, full inhales and exhales, one inhale with packing, hold for 3-5 sec, max exhale, inhale with few packs and I go for it. This is my routine for wet statics. For dry I simply do 3 attempts with that breath-up before each. Third one is usualy my max. I've been in only one competition so far and I did the same preparation like usually before wet max attempts. When I started my freediving training, about 6 months ago I did PB's every week or so. I just couldn't resist to see how fast I make an advance. Now I try to do it only once a month. This routine works for me so far but it doesn't mean that it will work for you. I can only hope that it helps you to find your own. I'm also curious how do others do that. Maybe it will help me to find something new for myself.

Avita : In a way your dynamic training are good for the static because it accelerate the mammalian dive reflex. Juniorre : On your Wet PB you do just one breath hold??? Well, I will try this one but I think It won't work 4 me. My routine for dry static is : 3 minutes deep-but-normal breath 3 very deep breath. One full exhale Very very deep breath (plus mild packing sometimes) Hold it as much as I can or close to my max. I do it five times in raw, when the last time will be most of the times a try to go for PB. I'm really don’t sure that it is the best way (even for me), and that way I have open this thread (Hopefully more of us will reply J ). I do it once in a week (And I know it too much…). |

No. On my wet ststics when I try to hit my PB I do it on 4th attempt.
Like wrote - first I do two negative statics, then one attempt till 10 - 20 contractions and only then my max.
