i occasionally do dynamics down at the local pool but winter is coming up soon and last year i didnt do any diving during winter and had to train again this year, this winter i want to keep training becuase i am at my best at the moment.
the only problem is the pool is very cold in winter i was thinking about cuttin my long johns down to the waist so they would be like pants but didnt know if this would make my legs too boayant making it harder to keep level? would ankle weights help? i dont really need the long johns anymore becuase they are getting small and im getting a new suit soon so thats not a problem |

What thickness are we talking about?
With 5mm pants, you will have quite much buoyancy. But I've seen people dive with such a configuration. If you have a sinking monofin, you propably don't need ankle weights or anything. But if you have the floating kind, I imagine some weighing is needed. You'll also want to wear a belt if you only wear the pants to avoid the parachute effect. I wouldn't say it's the optimum, but if the cold really bothers you, it's better than not training and definately doable. Teppo Kallio used a set up similar to that for the DYN national record in 2004. Here's a clip of it: http://www.freedivingfinland.net/nuk...q=getit&lid=24 I'm not sure what the thickness of the pants was, I'm guessing 3 or 5mm I can't see that setup working very well for DNF though.

Hi!
After start wearing my suit (Jacket with hood and high waist trousers) made of smooth skin outside I added 30 meters to my PB in DNF in just 14 days going from 60 to 90 meters and still had plenty of energy left. So I would say that you should go for it, try it out maybe use different combinations of suit thickness and weights.

A friend of mine does dynamic in hi-waist pants and he complains that if he doesn't wear a belt (sometimes even if he does) water is coming down through them and slows him down.
I think it depends on your swimming style. From what I see in a clip posted by Jome - Teppo swimms very slow (at least during first 100 meters

i just watched the Peter Pederson 200m dynamic video again and he is swimming pretty fast with pants and idnt wearing a belt? maybe the pants have to be pretty tight? has anybody else had any experiences with wetsuit pants before i cut mine up.

I think Peter's pants are not neopren but some kind of swimmer's pants, maybe speedo's. You can try contacting him on this forum under the name of Peter P.

For dynamic I use a 2mm shorty suit and a neckweight. My PBs were done like that. For DNF I use the same suit but with a weight belt.

I have just started wearing a 3mm triathlon wetsuit for dynamics. Our pool is very cold and it has been such a great pleasure to be able to slow everything down and really enjoy freediving again.
I wear 6.5 kg with it (3 on neck, 3.5 on waist), which it 2kg more than I wear without the wetsuit - have to split it up - if it's all on my neck I tend to descend head first into the bottom of the pool, but some on the waist (while not ideal for a good full breath) gives me great balance. The difference is amazing. I just feel like I'm flying through the water so fast with so little effort. I've cut down the number of strokes required per length for no-fins by half (perhaps due to the increased glide since I'm no longer shivering) - can do 33m in 4 strokes very comfortably. I couldn't go back now... |

dude, this is amazing, those are REALLY long glides - lot of energy saving in there - what #s your no-fins PB? |
