Re: The wet and squishy apnea walk

Don't worry - it could be worse.
How?
Let's not go into details...but...ever wondered why they recommend doing apnea on an empty stomach?

Re: The wet and squishy apnea walk

UPDATE:

Last night, I managed a 123 yrd apnea walk....one yrd short of last week's 124 yrd walk, but, the best part....there was NO "incident"! Came close, yes, but somehow, I was able to control and manage it. I guess I must be more aware, now. As I side note, I think I counted 20 contractions (there may have been more) before I had to give in. Now, if only I could improve my STATIC (my best on those so far is 3:30).

Well, it actually happens to me each time I push it to limit, even on v dry static. I use it as a good sign for me. 10-20 sec after the "release" comes the samba, and 10-15 sec later comes the BO.

Is this a men-only problem? I haven't heard any freediving girls admit to it. Or maybe guys are just more honest...

I have wondered the same thing because my partner is very strong in this department too! In apnea or exams...

I was reading about scuba diving in the uk in dry suits, it seems like divers dypers are the norm, or you can even get some kind of cathiter.

Re: The wet and squishy apnea walk

This may not be an uncommon issue, though I have not encountered it. I just read Pelizzari and Tovaglieri's text on freediving, and they mention that an urge to eliminate can occur, among other psychological and physical sensations, when one achieves relaxation "whether passive or dynamic" (if you have the book, p. 129 - does this characterize what is going on in your experience?). Also, some little kids have "apneic" tantrums and "accidents" are not uncommon in those cases.

Frankly, towards the end of an apnea exercise, I am usually in anything BUT a relaxed state. Maybe that's why I don't have this issue. Still a newbie.... but also F not M.

I guess the point of this post is - if it makes it any less embarrassing, you're apparently not alone... BTW, congratulations (to the original poster) on the pb of 124 yards walking apnea and on your static time!

Cheers to you,
