Very slow

For the last two days everything on Deeperblue has been so slow to download that it is almost unusable. The home page and everything on the forums is affected. Everything else downloads at normal speed, so it isn't the connection.

Has anyone else noticed the same, and any ideas?

Same here, its as if the DNS look up isnt working sometimes. Maybe a full minute to open a page if it opens at all. Very often have been getting the server is to busy.

There were network problems for NTL users one day last week, I forget which. Virgin Broadband also uses NTL apparently. Some sites (e.g. Google) were accessible and some (e.g. eBay & Hotmail) were not. Perhaps that had something to do with it?

Another thing can slow down internet access: computer virus/spyware.
If you don't already have antivirus, there is a free one available on the web now (if you need details let me know).

I do have antivirus. Some spyware tried to download itself yesterday, but the virus checker picked it up.

The problem has sorted itself out. If it happens again I'll post, with a book handy so I can read while the page downloads...

I experienced that as well, one day last week - it seems to be ok now.

The backup scripts for this site are being re-written to stop causing the server too much downtime, which is causing the current issues with serving the site on occassion.
