hey everyone, i am new to the site, and to the scuba world. I am interested in commercial diving, more so inland type work. I am curious as to what types of realistic jobs are out there for some one fresh out of school and what kind of money to expect starting out. I am also curious as to if there is a waiting period of surface work before making your first dive and how long to expect to be doing surface only work? Any other help and info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hi and welcome!
Well recreational scuba diving is a world apart from commercial diving, but firstly I guess doing a rec scuba course will help to see whether you actually like diving or not, especially if you've never been underwater. However, don't expect comm diving to resemble anything similar especially if you're planning inland diving. Do you spearfish/freedive? From my experience people that can spearfish or freedive well, but have no scuba training are usually more comfartable in water and tend to make the transition to scuba and surface supply much easier. As for work prospects and pay in your country I have no idea, but I'm sure there are opportunities and you have some good schools to get training at. As far as I know offshore diving seems to be doing farely well with work available and reasonable pay depending on your experience and qualifications. Hope this helps a bit.. Most comm guys will tell you to take the least amount of training as possible to get a certification, then work inland if you actually want to dive instead of being a tender forever.
The glamour wears off quickly but the money can be decent- like working a good construction job or other trade. Unless you get on with a big company that has endless work, you will be working for a few different outfits and even setting up your own contracts once you're proficient and known.
