Hi,

is there anybody who ever cut his long john down to low waist pants as shown in the picture?

A buddy of mine did it... He just cut them a bit short and wished the waist came up higher... But they worked ok.

Do you know, if he used neoprene glue or something else ?
Just cut them with a pair of sharp scissors- no need for any glue or anything, they'll be fine.

Remember you can cut twice.... Difficult to un-cut.

He just left it as is, without gluing it.
It's just about an inch or two too short.

your picture indicates a cut that would turn out to be lower than most manufacturers are doing high waist pants. the lower back is a region where the wetsuit often is less sticking to the body (spine mould /lowerback mold). i think a double layer in this region is great.
apart from that, i can not say it better than apneaddict already did....

most high-waist pants come above the belly button...

I recently had a suit custom made that had lower waist pants for a better / less restricted inhale... for warmer water.

That area in the core that is covered by the top AND the pants has double the thickness of neoprene and REALLY adds to warmth...

You probably want to cut above the navel. Also, do not lay the pants flat on a table and cut. You will get a much more uniform and level cut (when you are wearing the suit) by putting it on and having a buddy draw a horizontal line at the level you wish to make the cut.

It is wise to put a dab of wetsuit glue over the threads of a cut seam, to help prevent them from running.

Incidentally, the MAKO Spearguns 2-piece freedive suits have been constructed with this option in mind, We place a horizontal seam a little below where most people would want to make the cut. This type of construction will help prevent seams from splitting.

too late.
the cut is a little bit under the navel. and yes, i draw the line with the suit on the table.

i will reply again after the next training session.

Cutting that low was probably a mistake. Water is floating in and its a lot colder.
For the future i would definetly recommand a high cut/ high waist pants :(

A lot of my friends have cut off the top of their Farmer Johns, but they make the cut much higher- right around the nipples.

If you just split the farmer johns down the front, you free up the chest without losing much warmth. Easy to repair if you don't like it. Try removing some material from under the armpits too.

Agreed, my custom made Elios pants go up to in between the navel and the pecks.

I use the suit for pool training. At that time i thought it would be too warm for dynamic. The other reason was buoyancy.
