Re: Ireland spearing 2008

Went to lough ine yesterday, 3-4 metres vis, very calm. Didn't see any fish, there was a lot of large scollops in fairly shallow water. Pity you can't take them Practiced on depth and time for an hour. Very enjoyable afternoon in a beautiful spot. I'll be around wednesday night Johnny if the weather is good. Give me a shout if your going out.

Re: Ireland spearing 2008

I'm BACK! Just collected my computer from PC World. It's been being repaired since February. So much for Toshiba/PC World's guarantee/aftersales service.
I've been in the water 13 times now and although there're plenty of crabs around the only fish I've had are mullet. I'm sure there must be bass around by now. I almost always get one by Easter but the water's been a bit cloudy this spring.
I'm busy fitting a Garmin sounder to the kayak. Can't wait.

Re: Ireland spearing 2008

2007_06280008.jpgI noticed a discussion on the Welsh thread, about dates of first caught bass of the year. These are mine from Easter Sunday 2006, April 16th. They weighed 3lb 11oz and 6lb 11oz.
Last year I spotted 2 on April 17th, though I didn't shoot anything.
I'm sure they'll be around by now.

PICT1024.jpg Cheers Spaniard. Here's this years first fish - 2 mullet, photo courtesy of Donnachad.
The fish were taken on Sunday April 6th though Dennis's camera seems to think it was March 22nd.

Definately on both counts. Pollack are my main interest and your mention of pollack spots in an earlier post got me interested. Bass and mullet are OK to eat but I like the diving and the underwater scenery of pollack hunting.

hi (sorry for my English it`s not my native language)
i live in Dublin,Knocklyon. new to this hobby. but i looking to start very very soon. ordering some gear and straight in to water. as well i will be looking for advise .
Asso65 or 75 - which one is better. do anybody using power regulator on them spear gun. or rubber guns are better?
I asked in a diving shop about spearfishing - answer was - cant use air guns(with extra gas tank) i read about it. pneumatic guns is legal .

Re: Ireland spearing 2008

Hey Danas. Pnuematic require a licence but are not illegal. better off with a band gun, easier for starters. Personally id go for the 75 because its longer(every diver has his prefences)and easier to hit fish in bad vis.

Re: Ireland spearing 2008

hey! got out last friday evening (not yesterday) near carraroe.

have to say, was the coldest i've seen all year.

and there were no fish .

i'll be better off time wise after the 9th of may, so am planning some expeditions.

heading to Canada for the summer so won't be around.

Re: Ireland spearing 2008

hey lads

got out today for the first time since last summer................

visibility 6ft, the 7mm suit kept me roasting. Not much to see except small bass and mullets

Mullets everywhere. So i said i will try a few shots just in case i forgot how to aim.

The result was not so bad.

Anyone else out???
