Hello, can anyone recommend a good shop for buying Spearfishing gear on the South Coast.
I'm based at Eastbourne but am happy to travel as far as needs be in order to find a good shop. Failing that does anyone have a favourite website for ordering online?, I know that there are lots out there but the delivery charges and return policy's seem to differ so much I would appreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks for any help. Paul |

Thank You Sunfish,
I see what you mean about the Sporasub prices.. I need to buy a wetsuit soon so I was thinking maybe the ApenaSub Shadow from spearo.co.uk at £140 plus P&P or the Omer Green Mimetic from scubastore.com at £136 plus P&P also now I'm thinking about the Sporasub Instinct but they don't seem to have all the sizes for the cheap price. Does anyone know of any other good buys for Wetsuits??? Thanks for any Help |

If you want to internet shop from the UK for spearo gear the big four are in no particular order; Apnea in Jersey, Subprof, Scubaland France and the DB shop. All offer relatively safe and cheap internet shopping. I always compare them if I want to get a deal. The cost of shipping, the stock held and the sevice and back up do vary but these 4 are the main players. Within the UK DB member Spearo Dave runs a specialist spearo site that offers quality gear. Personally I've had good sevice from UK shops; Denny's Diving, Kent Diving and Robin Hood Watersports, all of which have shopping web sites. Apart from Spearo Dave all these sites sell scuba gear etc but if you want suits there are one or two specialist sites especially for MTM suits.

Hi,
Thanks for all the suggestions, they were the same websites that I had come across by searching but it's always nice to know that other people can recommend them personally. I ordered the ApenaSub Shadow from spearo.co.uk on Monday and have just ordered a few other more things from Apena now. I ordered a Cressi Speargun form Portland Oceaneering on Monday as well but just saw that Apnea have it for £20 cheaper..... Sods Law.... At least I will know for the future.. I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that all my Spearfishing buys will probably be best done online from now on but I really wanted to find a good shop that I can go and have a look and play with the stuff before I buy. I guess there is just not the demand for it in the UK right now... not such a bad thing maybe, I'm sure if it became popular you would just get the types who would jump on the latest fad and end up spearing someone and ruining it for the rest of us when the powers that be brought in new laws just to be seen to be doing the right thing.... Thanks again for all the info. Paul Just one more thing....... I've think I've got all the main bits and bobs I will need to get started spearing but does anyone have a suggestion for the "must have" tool or piece of kit that they have now but wish someone had told them about when they were getting started????? All suggestions greatly received..... |

Hi,
Thanks everyone for all the advice everyone, I'm glad that from what I have read it seems that I am on the right track with what I have bought so far.. Cressi Gara 3000 Fins. ApenaSub Shadow wetsuit Rubber Marseillaise Weight Belt OMER Double Bladder Torpedo Buoy OMER Alien Mask I did order a Cressi Comanche 75 Rubber Speargun form Portland Oceaneering but after a really helpful heads-up from Chris Reynolds from this Forum I think I will cancel that order as they seem to be having a problem with getting in stock from Cressi. Apart form that I have found another gun I think will hit the spot. It's the Omer T20 Millenium Carbon Speargun from Apnea which comes in the same colours as the Omer Mask, the rather cool looking Mimetic Med (green camo design) I'm starting to put together a list of all the other bit's and bob's I am going to need like a good knife etc from all the advice on the Forum, thanks for that. I think the only other main buy I am interested in is the Cressi Gorilla Kit Bag, for two reasons really... you can rinse off all your kit in the bag and then use the drain plug to empty the water out and the second reason is that any bag called a Gorilla bag has to be cool just because of the name. I'm sure there will be lot of other things I will pick up along the way. Thanks again and I'm still keen for any tips or advice you might have. Take care Paul |

I was under the impression that Portland Oceaneering was closing down? Perhaps they are just getting rid of old stock now? Maybe someone here knows the situation.

I've tried to get in contact with Portland Oceaneering to cancel my order by phone and had no luck getting past the voice mail. I have emailed them to ask for the same thing.
Following up on Spaniard's question, does anyone know what is going on with them??? Thanks in advance for any info.. |
