Re: Ireland Spearing 2012

Johnny: just saw your message there, have an exam in Tralee this week so will not be out again till the weekend. I am mountain biking Saturday but Sunday I would be up for a dive. I still have your number so will give you a bell at the weekend.

I was out again Sunday for that last Bass before the closed season, tried further down the East coast and was rewarded with some nice ones around, took one a Mullet, Mullet looked very small compared to the Bass I got but not sure of weights as yet to buy a scale.

Headed out very early, wind was light with about 4mtres viz, heading back the wind was howling and swell picked up. Ended up to dangerous to swim close to rocks so had to climb up the cliff and walk around...summer in Ireland eh..

How deep they were Zaratustra? Any difference in water temperature?

Re: Ireland Spearing 2012

They were on 8 mts. Mostly very very small sizes and only few in good size. The temperature of water was low 11 - 12 on the surface and down to 9 on the bottom

Re: Ireland Spearing 2012

I thought a joule was a measurement of energy not velocity?

Re: Ireland Spearing 2012

it is a measure of energy... e=mc2 etc...

Firearms are measured in joules as velocity will tell you nothing, energy is where its at, as its weight dependant. A feather hitting you at 10mps will feel a bit softer than a car at 10mps. In this case I think E=MV? Regan?

That's momentum. Momentum = Mass x Velocity. Energy = 1/2 x Mass x Velocity^2. Duh...

Energy from baseball pitch = 0.5 x 0.145kg x (40m/s)^2 = 116J
Energy from paintball pellet = 0.5 x 0.003kg x (100m/s)^2 = 15J
Energy of 7mm-diameter spear from Cyrano 850 pneumatic gun = 0.5 x 0.334 x (33m/s)^2 = 182J

So a speargun is a pretty dangerous thing. However...

Energy from Regan tackling you = 0.5 x 95kg x (7.7m/s)^2 = 2,816J

I win. I should need a licence to operate me

[The first wise ass that suggests I can't reach 7.7m/s is going to get tackled]

Thanks Dr NZRegan
But if I were to tackle you at the same variables I would create over 3kJ, tbh I'm certain I could get faster than you also but mainly bow down to my greater mass
