With 2 different computers, and I'm sure they measured the rope as well, I think we can be pretty certain it's within the ballpark of 200m...
I don't know how deep the deepest safetydivers were, but if there were any at the bottom, they propably had some instruments as well. Suunto instruments, I believe, are calibrated for saltwater, which counts for the few percent margin of error in fresh water. But this was in salt water. Of course no instrument is perfect, but what other choise was there? The F1 is not ready (or readily available) and despite how good it sounds, regarding it's accuracy we only have the word of it's builder, which I find credible, but the rest of the world might not so easily. A malfunctioning device is another story and true, some Suunto's seem to have problems. But a result verified by 2 individual computers plus a measured rope...My hat is off to anyone who within those parameters plunges in, comes back over 3 minutes later and produces a graph from his D9 that shows a beautifully curved graph of a dive to 200m. Long story short: come on, give the man some credit

I'm pretty sure he won't be inviting officials...If you read his posts in the website, it's pretty obvious.
However, how about AIDA ask nicely, maybe even apologize (if there indeed was some kind of insult on their behalf to Patrick) and SEND some officials. You know, as a token of good will...Leave all this bitterness and BS behind and take one step forward to actually unifying the "scene" instead of creating another branch. I'm sure a couple of judges wouldn't mind a trip to Egypt. Finding the money for that is another story (contrary to what people may think, I don't think AIDA is exactly loaded...You can do the math based on the number of members pretty quickly)

My friend I couldn't agree more using this ground breaking record would be a perfect ooportunity to unify the federations andf put to rest all the BS as you put it.... But I really don't see it happening !! There are alot of people on Ego trips in these different federations from what I hear. I feel like I ran into one here for that matter ... but I promised to be good so i'm shutting up |

I don't think AIDA would have any problem philosophically with sending some judges if invited, financially I don't know but I do know there is at least one AIDA International Judge living in Hurghada already who could probably go.

The one remaining D9 that worked on the dive should be accurate to 2%, so 200m +/- 4m, or 196-204m; the existing 192m record would also be accurate to 2%, or about 192m +/- 4m, or 188m-196m, so Patrick's dive is at least equal and probably significantly deeper than the existing 192m record.... hopefully he'll get to 225m or more by the end of the event.

Nice Picture Patrick and the F1+ the Number 200+ About the Moon, I've seen several documentries taking apart the moonlandings, it appears to be a imposseble with the given equipment and spacesuits to withstand the radiation in space. The Astronauts would be microwaved and radiated to death before they would reach the moon. There are going to be Submarines there as well, and they to have depthmeters. And maybe he's carrieing some other instruments to monitor lifefunctions like Heartrate! Love, Peace and Water! Kars

From the site's banners Patrick is being sponsored by Suunto, so I'm not sure that would be a commercially right or even ethical act to put a competitor's computer on him as well. Ever seen a marathon runner with Nike on his right foot and New Balance on his left foot?

Do we have a name yet for this mystery man that hit 192m or are we still guessing who it could be ? |

First of all, congratulations to Patrick. Amazing results! I hope he manages to go even deeper!
I don't think we can compare his results with those of recognized records, since those were done under written, specific rules and procedures. This of course doesn't mean that what Patrick has done is of less value. We just can't compare these performances. When you have different rules, it's like having different disciplines. Simple. http://www.aida-international.org/Pd...ecognition.pdf If you check the above link and read the record rules for No-Limits, you will see that the rules written in 2003 (and still valid today) do not mention anything about limiting the weight of the sled. So I don't really understand why he didn't invite AIDA judges. Anyway, well done Patrick! Amazing! Panos Lianos Athens, Greece |

Well maybe hes just doing it for kicks. Respect to the man all the same.If hes got sponsors like Suunto I guess he has to be doing something right since other AIDA loving chaps cant get a dime from anywhere.
FINALLY WHO WAS IT THAT HIT THE -192 MARK ALREADY???
