Maybe join the forum and reply? After all, most spearfishers set themselves rules and some anglers are every bit as bad as some spearfishers.
I personally try not to kill bass or mullet over 6lbs unless it's a personal best. Is this too big? Should I make it 5 or 4lb? Maybe this issue needs discussing on a thread of its own.

everyone should be honest and conscious at their own takings. when my freezer is full I will not shoot. if my family is hungry I will. very simple really. I would hope that this easy lesson is followed by most spearos..

I guess the big question is how often does this spearo take this amount of fish (not sure how many he shot from the picture). If he takes a large number every week then he is obviously taking more than he could possibly need, but if this was his only dive of the year / first fish he had taken that is entirely different. This does assume that people are ethical as azapa pointed out.
Just looked up how long it takes mullet to grow - never realised they take 10 yrs to grow to ~3lbs: Return That Fish? |

Now it looks like one or two would be happy to see us drown. What exactly do these people do? Catch and release? Do these people eat fish or what?

At least only one seemed to feel that way. When the LACS people get on the case anglers may be seen as fish torturers who don't even have the justification of eating their catch!
I was very happy to see how many of the anglers were supportive. Anglers who believe in killing no fish at all must be vegetarians before they'd get any respect from me. Otherwise they're just hypocrites.

Well I'm cross as hell about that comment! I live next door to the local camp site and there is this fat tw.t with a tractor and a boat with a pirate flag who catches twice his own weight in Mackerel and Whiting etc every day and throws most of them into the camp site skip because no bugger wants them. The stink sometimes in the summer is horrible, thankfully the prevailing wild is blowing it away from us. Same sort of F..k pig that would cast his Mackerel feathers at me

Hey Foxy, I assume you must mean the silly mistake of going to close to the anglers? I agree, although I also made the mistake for a short time this season, night diving off Weymouth Pier with John, not deliberate, just not concentrating.
Ah spearfishing....not totally liked by the anglers who stay on the beach, but then within reality, they are always going to spot us coming out of the water. On the other hand, none of us storm up to anglers moaning when they pull in a few decent fish, nor the undersize ones! And I am not sure anyone can convince a person holding a mullet up so highly in the 'sportfishing' regard! The photo show the mullet count around 3 or 4 good fish. Only sorry the angler thinks the spearo wiped out a shoal and was just another spearo hellbent on swimming as close as possible?? P.S. My float is orange Podge and Weissmann!! ![]() P.P.S. PASTOR!....Remember the dog collar
