Re: Spearing north wales

Am freediving in the morning and then thinking of going down the lleyn again for high water at 15.22, its only a small tide but there should be some fish about. seems the wind is going to be blowing south west so will be sheltered. Do you fancy it pastor?????? can pick you up from caernarfon/Bangor around 1-1.30 pm and just take one car down?? let me know

Re: Spearing north wales

Sorry forgot to say!!!!!!! its for Friday.

Best time is usually an hour or 2 before hw and then a hr of the ebb. Bring a rucksack or bag as its a 10min walk which can be bloody hot in full kit so we get changed on the beach and carry all our stuff down.
Looking forward to it!!!

The surf is rolling in and the viz is as close to nil as you're going to get I think we're going to have to give it a miss mate

Re: Spearing north wales

I went to Rhosneigr on 26.8. and it was just about fishable.
Went again on 29.8. and visibility was down to 3-4 feet with 6-8 ft. waves. I guess some of you guys can still catch a few fish in such conditions, but I am not that good.

For people that live not that close to the sea I can recommend the following links:
http://www.nwsa.ukf.net/bouy/readings.htm
http://www.pol.ac.uk/ntslf/tides/?port=0054
http://www.meto.gov.uk/weather/europe/uk/wales.html
http://www.camserv.co.uk/rhos/bigrhos.htm

Do you think there is a chance of having few more reasonable fishing weekends or is it more-or-less finished for this season?

Is it any fcucking wonder I never catch owt these days. I think the world and his wife all spear here

octopus, I think another good fortnight and thats it around here for shore diving. I think they will still be offshore for another couple of months but thats a boat jobbie. Roll on next summer!

This is a better link for tides dude http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/easytide...electPort.aspx

Dave I wont be around during the week for a while, so I'm weekends only, or another night dive on a FLAT night

Re: Spearing north wales

Was blowing a gale on the lleyn coast so decided to go to penmon again, viz was crap but got one bass of 3lb, lots of bait in the water and small pollack but only the one bass spotted.

Dorry was nice and warm at 17deg on the surface and I did a nice dive to 50m.

Am wondering if we will get in again!!! ?

Re: Spearing north wales

Went out on the evening low tide and hell was it low. Viz was about 2 - 3m, didnt see a thing for about an hour then out of the blue there was a 3lb bass on the end of my spear - BANG! Let the surf wash me over the rocks while I strang it and reloaded and then came round for a second look, just on the edge of the viz I see another - BANG! That one was 4lb, saw sod all else With my work load building up I think that will be my last dive of the year Where the cowing heck did the summer go?

Re: Spearing north wales

Hey Pastor (dont think any one else is still watching this thread!!)

Have been down in west wales this weekend and went in for a few dives. on Sat got in 1hr before high and found a load of small bass but no good uns, really cloase to the beach. As I got a bit deeper the fish really started, got my best pollack at 4.5lb and 3 mullet (4, 4.4 and 6lb!!) and 2 bass of 3lb!! not a bad sesh! the water down there is still 17 deg but viz was down to 3m but very spearable. Was going to have a go this week but just had a look at the rhos web cam!!!!!! and its only going to build for the next few days.

Ohh well maybe next year!!

Re: Spearing north wales

Dunno why no one is watching this thread Its the best on DB by a long shot! Whats all this Dorset and Guernsey bunkum all about then
COOL! Not a bad sesh at all I got back in yesterday morning, the viz was terrible. Saw lots of small Pollack about the 1lb mark but sod all else. Kinda sad really, I like it when there are plenty of Bass around. Ive been toying with the idea of doing the odd winter dive on those nice evenings we get, just on the off chance, the boat guys have had Cod to 10lb here in winter; must be worth a look eh?

Re: Spearing north wales

Hey guys I really enjoy your post & always follow your thread.
Wales seems to have plenty of fish but it doesn't sound easy to see them!
Any how that is some catch you had Dave.
Pastor, I thought you said somewhere you had your last dive of the year? I think you sould buy a thick suit & get some cod.
