beginner question

Hi everyone
im new on here based in ellesmere port, for those who do not know it its a quaint little village situated next to europes largest oil refinery, gods own country i think not
well i have been surfing the north welsh coasts for many years and have scuba dived in the past but have now developed a taste to try spear fishing.
I have had a few questions kindly answered by pastor which i forward my thanks so ill be going public from now on so as im not stalkin the fella.
I have purchased an excaliber 2000 gun 90cm, stringer belt etc but still need to buy a float.
my question is the gun came without line or bungey and I do not have a crimp plier set.
what size line mono or braid should i buy
bungeys pig tail or snap and is it very important to get a float straight off or can this wait until i save more funds
all the best boys and girls
Neil (conn4000)

Re: beguinner question

Nice to see you have come out Neil

2mm nylon or 300lb mono would be fine. If we meet up I would be happy to rig you gun for you with mono or braid. Save you the expense of buying crimping pliers and mono etc

Some lovely villages near Ellesmere, Eastham as I remember is a picture in the summer

Re: beguinner question

Welcome Neil - Pastor is a walking encyclopedia on all things spearfishing!
I started spearfishing without a float , and only this season bought my first proper float. You can easily geat away without one ! although its the safety aspect that is most essential i feel-its also useful to carry spares and to string your fish to.
No need to spend - make your own! ideas on the DIY thread.. my first was a boat buoy.

That would be the Threepenny guide to pointy sticks

A float is essential kit around the coast here. Making your own is a great idea if only to get you thinking about what and what doesn't make good kit

PM sent Neil

Welcome on board Neil!
I agree with Pastor for the float, I would never get in without it and it's essential in your equipment! It can safe your life mate!
