Baby Oil

I have a cressi sub competition wet suit that i have been using baby oil on to help me get into it.Now some of the glued seams on the smooth inside have started to split. Is the baby oil causing this or have i just got a friday afternoon suit. The suit doesn't go through any more hardships than any other suit so it's not miss use.The suit is only 3 months old and is washed with love after every use.Any suggestions.

Re: Baby Oil

my chemistry is not very good, but i think it's possible the oil could degrade the glue. try using hair conditioner instead. baby oil must make a right mess, and must be very difficult to wash off??

Re: Baby Oil

Not a wizz with chemistry either but I know baby oil isnt recomended with certain rubber products available in toilets and chemists because it degrades them very quickly! It cant do much for your suit Use the hair conditioner like Alun says 10% solution and your suit will slip on with ease

Re: Baby Oil

I like using vaseline on spots like back of the knees and around the neck it works really well. I don't think is harmfull to the suit. In Brazil in stay in the water for 8 or 9 ours it works great. Stay way from industrial vaseline just get the one at walmart or any pharmacy.

Re: Baby Oil

Both Vaseline and baby oil will degrade the neoprene, and act as a solvent on the glue, so should be avoided. Some sun creams also cause problems (making the neoprene go sticky) If you want extra lube on the knees and neck use silicone grease or nappy cream (although I have never felt the need with a cell interior)
If you are sensitive to hair conditioner, Subskin is very good www.subskin.it but is is a more expensive option
cheers

Re: Baby Oil

Johnsons baby bath is excellent and does not irritate skin or damage wetsuit. Squirt some in a 1.5l plastic water bottle, fill with water and you have more than enough for getting any open cell suit on.

I assume it has something to do with this excellent(!!) movie.
Either that or Depeche Mode's 'strangelove' song.
