Question 'Built in' Sharksuit

Why hasn't anyone come up with the idea of an inner lining of 'Kevlar' instead of the usual nylon lining.
Doesn't it make sense to manufacture the wetsuit material incorporating the kevlar inner lining? Anyone heard of such a thing?
As an after thought...does anyone have a lead or link to a mfr of a 'long-john' type kevlar knit suit undergarment?

No expert with Kevlar but isnt it one of those materials with no strech? If so its going to be one stiff suit

Re: 'Built in' Sharksuit

Kevlar is pretty unstrechy stuff, so if a suit was fully lined with it there would be distinct issues with getting it on (i mean putting on the suit, but once on it could cause a whole world of problems with 'gettting it on'!).

However, there would be nothing too major stopping you from diving with a flack jacket on, so i suppose you could have kevlar panels on the outside of the suit in key locations although bouyancy might take a lot of lead to control.

Another thing to consider is that although kevlar is capable of stopping a bullet/knife blade/sharks tooth it only does this by spreading the load and transfering the impact over a wide area, so crush injuries are still an issue. Just because the 20' great white who has you in its jaws can't bite through your skin you probably still aren't going to have a great day out. I found this out first hand when a buddy of mine hit my flack jacket with a 2lb ball hammer, still got 2 broken ribs and a bruise the size of a dinner plate!

Re: 'Built in' Sharksuit

You're right about the lack of stretch, but I heard somewhere a long john creation was in the makes...
this knit type kevlar fabric might provide the desired stretch.

Mahalo!

I'm hoping some manufacturer somewhere comes across this post and comes up with the idea of a new creation!
