Post Self-healing wetsuits? In the news - new material.

Noticed this in the news last week: Laddered tights that can repair themselves - Telegraph

- a self-healing rubber-like material.

"The new material described in the journal Nature displays rubber-like behaviour.

However, unlike a rubber band, once snapped, all is not lost: hold the pieces together for 15 minutes and they will knit a new bond, without the need for adhesive."

Re: Self-healing wetsuits? In the news - new material.

I was reading about that stuff.....very cool. Thinking that maybe it could be used for bands? The "rubber" is held together using chemical hydrogen bonds, this is what allows it to self heal. Unfortunately this also means the bonds are weak....so using it for bands is out. Also...perhaps it would be too weak for wet suits...I'm not sure. I thought it would be really great for use as gaskets and washers for scuba tanks, garden hoses, etc... If they could make it stronger that would be great though.

Cool idea. Would be great for rockhoppers that cop a few cuts here and there in swell.
As long as it feels the same as neoprene id use it.
