Re: 3 or 5 mm?

Now see, octopus is optimistic . But now I'm afraid to buy a 3mm smooth/open. Elios didn't say if it was so delicate. To poke a hole through a suit while packing (hats off to that guy), that's something. And brand new!!

I really wonder how you guys dive into such frigid waters. Jeez man. I think I'd die if I swam in those kind of temperatures.

Fondueset, is the titanium coating that your friend has warm? I have a rashguard made from titanium in/superelastic out, and it's not very warm. Maybe because it's a bit loose.

Thanks octopus, sanso for your inputs.

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

He does well in his 5 mil.
If this is your first suit you will be much happier with nylon out I use my 3 mil open in/nylon out down to 16-17c - Sometimes with a 1.5mil titanium vest underneath. 3 mil suits are very comfortable compared with 5.

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

You think? I know it probably doesn't make a big difference in terms of speed, but its that 'cool' factor... Smoothskin out, and people see you in a whole different light...

Or maybe I'm dreaming a bit.

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

Judging from what the pool bottom did to my knee the other day - when I brushed it monofinning - your suit will get very cool very fast.
You can also go with nylon out bottoms and a smooth top.

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

Now that makes me see things in a whole new light too.

Maybe I'll just get the nylon out; solves all my problems right there and then.

Thanks Fondueset.

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

The only reason I have 3mm open/smooth is because I have another wetsuit for spearfishing/photography. If I only had one wetsuit, I would not go for 3mm open/smooth. As for "cool" factor, I always thought camo-pelagic spearfishing suit was cool one.

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

I think the Red Shadow is nice, or one of the spearfishing colours. What do you use your 3mm smooth/open for?

I use it for deep dives most of the time...with monofin. However, I do occassionaly use it for fun, depending on circumstances.

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

Hey, does anyone around have a smooth/nylon suit from elios that You can turn inside out when You need the smooth side?
From what elios tells me, smooth is almost as warm as opencell, easier to put on and the lining would protect the suit on everyday dives..

That would solve a couple of issues, right?

Now that is an idea. Is it possible?

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

It is certainly possible - the only thing is that smooth is not just as warm as open cell

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

You've seen my account on how cold I get; you think I'd survive with the smooth?

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

You sound like one for opencell.
But 5mm will be enough. Ah, and as I have posted about 300 times on here, You can get the pants in 5mm and the top in 6mm with the arms in 5mm, so Your torso is a bit better protected but You can still move as with a 5mm. (Have You searched through the forums? I think all of this has been written before....)

Re: 3 or 5 mm?

You'll toast in 5 mil in your waters. Smooth in open out would probably work for you in such warm water and they are reversible.
