Custom Suit

Hi all,
Im considering getting a new suit soon, and for a change am considering getting a custom/bespoke suit. Up till now I have used Omer suits and been very happy with them but fancy a change.
My criteria are:
Two piece
Camo hard wearing (nylon?) exterior
Reinforced seams
Knee pads
Loading pad
prefer thickness of 5.5 or 6mm
open cell inside
excellent quality (will get a lot of use and hopefully for a long time)
possibly option for extras like knife sheath built in etc.

Any thoughts on companys to consider appreciated. I know Elios are rated highly, but a friend had a bad experiance with one of their suits which has tainted my opinion of them somewhat although not ruled it out.
Im based in the UK and obviously as always price is a consideration.
Cheers
Joe

Re: Custom Suit

Myself and several others around here have elios suits. And Love them. If it's a custom suit your after- Of course everyone is going to say the suit they have is the best. I myself, Would always buy an Elios. I've not had any problems with them and use the suit ALL YEAR LONG. I don't know if they offer the knife sheath. But the Pads are well made.

What was the problem your friend had with his suit?

Re: Custom Suit

He had a silver one (dont ask) 3mm I think and possibly a smooth skin outer for a blue water boat dive trip. The seams on legs and under the arms gave way on the first day. Needless to say he wasn't very happy. Dont have many more details than that aside from he was diving off a boat in open water so had no rock abrasions etc. Also dont want to put anyone off ordering one etc as it wasn't me and I dont hae the full details plus it is one of the few instances of a complaint about an elios suit I have heard. Hence why im still considering one for myself.

Re: Custom Suit

Yeah - the 2 I have, both have Reinforced stiched seams. I put it through alot and haven't had any problems other than putting a few finger nail marks on the inside.

Re: Custom Suit

Joe your friend has been unlucky. On Deeperblue there are hundreds of spearos and freedivers from any part of the world who will swear on the superb quality of Elios.

This said, there are many other italian manufacturesrs who will provide the same quality as Elios: TopSub, Polosub, Marea, Biavati, Tecnoblu, Diansub (I have a splendid custom Diansub suit which has been handmade "live" under my unbelieving eyes) and many, many others. They all use the same first choice newprenes tailored by skilled craftmanship.

What has made the difference in favour of Elios is probably the website, with the sizing/measurements chart in english language. And still if you want to order a good custom suit, Elios is the way to go for you. No worry.

PS-If Omer standard sizes have a good fit on you, I've heard enthusiastic impressions about the new Omer Cayman wetsuits...

Re: Custom Suit

Unfortunately as far as i can tell the Omer Cayman wetsuits dont come in camoflage.. which is a prime concern for me. Does anyone have any close up pictures of their elios suit (pref. with a camo outer) I can see, if possible with some details of the suit.. model materials thickness etc.
Cheers
Joe

Re: Custom Suit

Have you checked out Spiros in greece? He has made quite a few suits for people on this site and for myself as well. It is by far the best fitting suit I have ever worn. He offers Blue or Green Abstract camo in all sorts of variations. Knee and elbow pads and loading chest pads. Open cell or Nylon options all for about $200 US oceanoswetsuits.com

I know sounds like a commercial for him but its not, I am just very happy with my suit and am just returning the favor.

good luck,

Joel

Re: Custom Suit

I got my suit from Spiros as well. 5mm. sadly, i only sees use about 4 months in the year, because the other 8 you dont need a wetsuit in the middle east, specially in the gulf.
but all in all, it was a steal
