There is a campground right next to the lake, but they don't take reservations. In the past Fred, or someone else, has gotten up there early and reserved a spot. All of the sites are group sites and they have always let us load them up without much of a problem. If thingas get full, which hasn't happened yet, there are three other campgrounds in the area as well as a couple of hotels.

I have an Aquaview (underwater camera)...do you think this may be a good thing to bring on some of the trips? Was thinking that some of the non-diving family could view us from a boat???

I only have one with 50' of cable, but depending on the vis, that may be enough...like for some of the shallow wrecks on Lake Michigan, etc.

That would be a lot of fun to have along on the ice dive- so they could see you swimming around below there feet. It might work for other things as well, if they are in a boat or something.

Hey Jon-
Seeing how there is no motors allowed on the lake I though of making a 4' x 8' dive platform for storing gear on and holding on to to get some relief. I was going to start getting supplies this week for it, and I was going to make it out of a couple plastic pallets with boat floats underneath and a little pole with a dive flag. If a friend will let me borrow his trolling motor it will be motorized!

Let me know something like this would be overboard (hahaha get it) for the weekend or a good addition to the festivities. Thanks again for putting this on.

If you look at my past posts from year's past you'll see my diver retrieval system that has buoys on it to store gear in- and on.

This year I have made some changes to that system in that i have replaced the main weight bearing float with a dive kayak instead. This will mean we can run up to four different lines off of her on the first, shallow, day and three lines off of her on the second, deep, day. There will also be plenty of room to store water bottles, cameras and extra masks or fins.

Instead of a trolling motor to move it out on site I have used my freediving scooter instead. This year I will be able to just paddle it into place if I so choose.



Speaking of this year's event. the official dates are July 14 and 15!

I have had quite a few questions about this in other threads, and in personal emails. I just want to make sure everyone knows the date. It also sounds like we will have some California boys joining us. That will be in addition to our normal groups from North Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Texas. There has been some talk about people from Florida, Canada and Michigan making the trip this year- or they may just wait until next year when we have our 5 year anniversary.

From what Dallas diver told me last year, it seemed that flying into Minneapolis was the best shot as it's a better drive there than from Chicago and cheaper tickets than from Milwaukee.

Some of us will be up there on Friday, or maybe even Thursday, to hold campground spots for the rest. These are group sites with lots of room on them. There are hotels a few miles away for the more delicate members who care to join us- Sven.

Is the spearing any good in this lake?

Not really.

There are some small panfish and some mid-sized suckers. I've used this lake more for target practice than regular spearing trips- check out the story I wrote after the first event where we set up an underwater target range.

After two days of diving we should have more than enough footage for 2 hour DVD. I got it all in my head already, plus whatever not planned will take place. I can't wait to it

Are there any lakes close by that may be good for spearing? I may be willing to try an early morning trip for spearos? If we get some, we bring the whole gang fish for supper, if not, we (the spearos) supply a BBQ?

Just a thought.
