A Tribute To Waiting...

In case you've never seen it.. the "Guiness Surfer Commercial" was a critically acclaimed advertising campaign launched in 1999 to promote Guinness draught stout in the UK. The cornerstone of the campaign was a television commercial which centred around a Polynesian surfer waiting for, and successfully taking on a gigantic wave. After its general release the piece went on to win more awards than any other commercial in 1999 and in 2002 was voted the "Best ad of all time" in a poll conducted by Channel 4 and The Sunday Times.

Well.. this the spearfishing version.

I am in no way trying to improve on Guiness's amazing commercial.. (not possible!) I just want to provide a different perspective on it. "Waiting" is exactly what we spearfishermen do, without patience you'll never get the bigger fish.

So.. this is a tribute to waiting, a tribute to the ocean, surfing, spearfishing, catching your own dinner.. and of course.. Guiness.

Enjoy.

Just in case there's any haters out there.. spearfishing is a fascinating activity in which the you dive and hide underwater, hunting selected species of fish with the help of your trusty speargun. Spearfishermen dive without the help of any breathing apparatus and hunt the fish in their environment; this makes the activity very challenging and natural. Spearfishing is one of the most environmental friendly fishing techniques as divers see their prey before shooting it and only catch adult fish. Spearfishermen typically catch only a few fish for dinner and by law are prohibited from selling any fish... unlike long-liners, trawlers etc etc.

Where do you buy your fish.. and at what cost to our oceans?
