Hi folks !

I have me a 100cm beauchat carbon gun.
It comes with 18mm bands and a 6.5mm spear as standard.
As I expected it's quite a beast to load especially if you do it like 20-30 times in a session. Quite a workout!

Questions :
1) If I put 16mm bands should I get a lighter spear? 6.25 or even 6mm perhaps? Is there a set rule or does every gun need experimenting with.

2) How about upgrading to monster 20mm bands? Is 6.5mm enough for this case?

you could use 16mm bands with the 6.5 spear its the standard setup for most manufacturers, once you get used to it you could power up to 18mm...if you move up to 20mm i would recommend to use a 7mm spear..

Good advice. Generally you can power down a bit and you get a sweeter action and more accuracy but less range (a little bit). Power up and you get into spear bending, recoil kicking, couldn't hit a barn door senario.

I like the beuchat guns but found they were engineered to a standard and a price and don't react well to being messed with. Gentle tinkering with different bands and set ups is okay but nothing major.

If you're loading the gun that number of times you are either making huge catches, in which case don't change anything or you are a useless shot in which case don't blame the gun, just get in some target practice.

I tried some 18mm bands over my normal 16 bands, i liked the power but i lost some accuracy so i lowered the power down to 16.5mm omer top energy bands and they are great. Also i use a 6.5 spear. Is it the Beachut Mundial speargun you got omd.:)

I went for the Mundial Carbon Elite in the end and after much deliberation.

I went for carbon for the very reason that it should (one day) be able to handle an upgrade to 20mm bands well (stay accurate and not bend)

Got the gun for £105.

Looks very well made but the proof will be in the coming trip to Croatia :)

I guess I'll keep the same 6.5 mm spear for the 16mm bands then.

What's the deal with the band threads?
I heard that only Omer use a different one to other manufacturers.
I can't find the beauchat 16mm so was thinking of getting Cressi ones - £6

i use a 100 cm beuchat with a 6.5 spear, single 16mm bands, and ive tried a few different bands, and in my opinion, the dessault bands will give you the best shot. omer bands can work with a beuchat too as far as i can tell, or if you want, since it has a rail, you could use a loop band, should still shoot very well.

vjanda, the bending will take place in the spear not the gun barrel, if you use a 20mm band with a 6.5mm spear, its doable, but not advised, it may cause spear bending or wobble, you wont feel it but you will notice less accuracy. the integrated rail helps with that problem. i normally use one of the following setups (which your gun will handle with ease), 16mm bands with 6.5 mm spear, 18mm bands with 6.75mm spear (my most common setup), 7mm with 20 mm bands....6.5mm with 18mm (the standard setup) will be very good tooo once you get used to the loading.... the loading by the way is ostly technique not strength.... make a topic search on loading, i think you will find a number of helpful threads...

Hey there, I have a 1.1 gun with 18mm bands and load it easily, what they said about technique is absolutely true, infact there are very few things in life you can acheive by using only brute force, I posted a good explanation on step by step loading here http://forums.deeperblue.net/hunting-equipment/68487-difficutly-cocking-gun.html#post618734 if you follow that guide youd be able to load almost any lenth gun with any thickness bands with relative ease. Cheers and happy hunting to ya all :)
