Martin, are you gonna use some coefficient DYN/DNF like in ND? Definitely 20 sec underwater different per 50m multiplied 16 is not fear. BTW do we have nonofficial WR for 16x50m in DNF?

I'll be in touch soon! What does the 16x50 mean?

16x50 is an unofficial discipline that we run. A diver is covering 16 times 50m under water. He/she can take as much break in between as he/she wishes but overall time counts.

Igor, I have not thought about this yet... I'd like to keep things simple... So maybe no coefficient to compare this years dives with previous ones.

We have had a 16x50 DNF which was just under 30 min. I think Jonas did it with 29:54 or something like that. So that would serve as a demonstration record and anything lower would be an unofficial WR.

Interesting idea, hm?

I also think that some coefficient for DNF and DNF16x50 would be good since as far as I remember there is only a global classification.

Hi Martin,

From the photo's to new pool looks very nice!
I take it it has a raise able floor,

- What will the depth profile? - so we can adjust my weight setup.

Igor I like the idea of the DNF 16x50 competition, Jonas Krahn's 30 minutes should be beatable, I'll be happy to take up the gauntlet!

Thank you Martin for organising!

Kars

Well did a partial 16x50m DNF test (6x50) yesterday, it appears to me the 2' schedule is fairly easy to do, 16x120-60=1860 seconds = 31 minutes. Even my buddy, who isn't a fan of the discipline found it very much doable. Maybe try next time for something more challenging like 1'45". 16x105-45= 27'15" Or maybe go strait to 1'30" ? -> 16x90-30=23'30"
Yeah that sounds better

slight error in this calculation:

you are doing 16 laps but only 15 breaks!

So reduce those numbers by whatever your surface time will be and you get a better understanding of how long it will take.

Hi Martin, my calculation was the following:

2' schedule relates to stating a 50m lap every 2'. Indeed the last lap does not last 2', because I swim 50 meters faster than 120 seconds, I swim about 50 seconds for 50m in DNF. Thus a 2' schedule would give me 1'10" surface time, to turn and recover. Plenty for a little conversation even for me

So when I would do 2x50 in a 2' schedule I would arrive at the following time:
2' (first 50m) + 2'(second 50m) - (2' - dive time (50 seconds)) =
2' + 2' - 1'10" = 2'50"

Hence for 16 laps: 16 x 2' - 1'10" = 1850 seconds = 30'50"

In my examples above I assumed a slower swimming speed, because I know it will get tough in the end and I may not be able to swim 50s over 50m, but closer to 1' over 50m.
I have to test it in a 25m pool still so maybe the turns will change a few things.

True Martin there are other ways to calculate your end time, but I like this one because I can have my D3 on repeating countdown indicating my start every time. What's more important in 16x50 is a coach to do the countdown for you, and while providing the mental support in this demanding challenge, adapt your schedule to get the best out of you. Igor (Osusim) did a most excellent job the last time running the 800m to coach me to a very nice 12'41" with monofin. He gave me a few seconds extra at lap 8, a mental breaking point, but expertly succeed in have me making up for it in the next 8 lanes. Though the Co2 headache was a bit stronger than 'normal' the unexpected fast time is very cool. Dare I dream of swimming faster than 12'? Well I like to pick up this 16x50m DNF and see where I can push that bar!

Has anyone tested himself in 16x50? it's a nice way to practice technique too!

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars

I'll give it a bash tomorrow and let you know how i get on? Sounds hard but a good challenge!

Ok people I just tried 6x50 DNF in a 25m pool, and it appears it's just a little bit slower than in a 50m pool for me. I still have to train to get the right speed and depth in order to swim with confidence not to crash into to the sloping pool floor. The Schedule I did yesterday was one of 1'30". Though it was getting more challenging, and the need to swim with better technique appeared, I think it can be done even quicker.

1'30" : with a UW time of a slow 60 seconds, I would have needed 23'30" to complete the swim with this schedule.

How are you guys and galls going?

Kars

Too many divers in the pool to try, it was more like dodge em's!! Give it another go this week.

According to Bill Stromberg his own website Apneamania he himself has done the following:
20 x 50m,
This is, as fastest you can, swim 20 times 50m without fins,
19'43", Bill Strömberg from Sweden, 970808 in Malmö, Sweden

Good luck beating that one! :martial

Let's see: 19'43" + say 15 seconds recovery time = 20'
So I guess he did 1 lane per minute, that's fast for sure!
That means one has to swim faster than 16' to beat Bill's time, wow that's not going to be easy... Well we'll see where I can get during my training, it surely is a big challenge and kudos to Bill for the fast time!

Besides many monofinners will not be as fast as Bill did without fins

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars

WOW! Thats a great performance by Bill. Specially when you consider that he was probably coaching, timing and judging it at the same time...

Hmmm, if you say it like that... other perspective :blackeye
