I live in the U.S. in Florida. I hunt at about 20m but am getting ready to start hunting deeper. I have read and appreciated many of the posts involving fins.

I am currently using Gara 2000HFs. These have served me well but I have no understanding of what a more efficient fin will feel like. I have been getting a lot of local advice on which fin to get. For awhile I thought about the Dive R fin blades. I was told that they work well in the Omer Stingray pockets, which fit my feet very nicely. I was also told that "no, the Stingray's do not work well with the Dive R blades"

I wear a size 46-48 footpocket, I'm 196cm tall, and weigh 92kg . I may be a stringbean, but I am also pretty strong. I am really long and am concerned about the Dive R blades making me even that much longer. I've also heard that the blades of the Dive R fins are heavy, which I might not like. I like to hover gently into postion rather than having any part of me, including fin blades, crashing into the bottom.

I don't really have the knowledge to endlessly debate the merits of fins. I want to make a good selection, buy the fins and get down to the business of spearfishing.

I do end up laying on the bottom pretty often, although I'm not really slapping anything with my fins. I'm wondering if carbon fins are an option for me. To date, the Cressi Gara 2000s have seemed fine. I'm being told though that when I switch to a fiber reinforced blade that it will really be a big difference.

Since the Stingray pockets work so well for me, does it make sense for me to just go ahead and get the whole setup? I heard DiverDane saying that you can't go wrong with the Stingray 30s. I just want to select a fin and dive. I don't want to get into a set of fins that I regret buying (of course).

Also, am I understanding it correctly that the footpockets are now being sold as 45-46 and 47-48? I think the Stingray pockets I tried on simply said 46-48. If the greater resolution in size is available, how will I know which to choose if my local dive shop doesn't have a set for me to try on?

Additionally, I do most of my hunting from a boat. We do have strong currents here in Palm Beach County, but I don't generally fight the current (it is often impossible to do so).

Sorry it's taken me a while, after seeing your post and weight re 30's may be a better option.
My foot normally fits snug in a 44-46 millenium pocket and fits perfectly in a 43-44 stingray. I like my fins very tight, leftover from lots of minofn diving I guess. Are you sing the 47 in the vressi pocket? If so is it loose ish or tight, if it's tight go the 47 in the Omer if it's loose go one sizedown hopethat helps.

You will get endless debates onfins here. I stats in 2000 hf like you and was blinded by the monster that was diveR and puechesed a pair hoping it would be the final straw, only to e very dissapointed and selling them. They are good don't get me wrong but a good carbon fin leaves any glass fin for dead!

DD I am just curious about the DiveR's. What disappointed you? Perhaps too stiff? I have ordered a pair of DiveR blades after using a friends for about 2 weeks and I loved them. They are stiffer than my Beuchats (carbons) and I love the 25 degree angles.

I have a pair of Spierre Carbons in Med stiffness if you are interested. My feet do not fit the Stingray pockets for some reason and I think the softer stingray pockets would be perfect for the spierres. let me know if you are interested.

tuffstuff I saw your fins on another site that we both belong to. thanks for the offer but I'm going to go with the Stingray 30s. Maybe we'll get a chance to dive together, either down your way or up mine though. Nice to meet you.

Blueface, i had the mediums which were about right for me (tried the soft as well, whcih were better) but in both casesthe length is far to long to be usefuland the performance was good but not remarkable. after trying other fins (Carbon Omers,C4, Mtechniks etc) i realised that there are FAR better fins for the money available. dont get me wrong they arent BAD by any means but there are certainly better fins on the market.

the DiveR's have reached a cult status in Australia because the major diver got a hold of them and that was that. regardless of performance they were THE fin to have. but like i said i quickly realised that there are better fins on the market.
