my friend has a totem tahiti custom made to 130cm, he has decided to change from twin 16mm bands to a single 19mm band, but has had problems finding a correct length for the single rubber,

has anybody had expierence of tuning a single 19mm on a similar gun, as he is getting tired walking to and from the sea to his shed to cut another rubber !, any advice would be cool.. :)

hes looking for a good range and a hefty kick for shooting very jumpy seabass at his home in mevagissy, cornwall.

Ask Memo on this forum, although I think he might be on a spearing trip at the mo. He has a formula to work out length of rubber for correct power/length ratio. Also Portinfer might know.......

spaniard, thanks m8, i see your in bucks !, im also in bucks in mk, cant get much futher away from the sea dont you think..

dont suppose your name is david spain? i just noticed your age, he was a friend i havent seen for quite a long time

I know a very good spearo in Aston Clinton who worked out that his location was the furthest from any part of coastline in England!!!! Bucks comes a pretty close second which means I don't get down to my favourite spots as much as I would like!

no way im from weston turville and my spearo m8 in cornwall harks from the tring road in aylesbury!,

where you at?

I'm over in Wooburn Green, near High Wycombe.....a long way from Looe which is one of my favourite spots

no way, small world , i was in looe last august after leaving mevagissy, doing some camping with the misses and kids, no spearfishing tho', very nice place.

going down to mevagissy for spearfishing trip in 6 weeks, hopefully i will have a new totemsub pelagos to take with me..

now wycombe well, i used to work at moilns in saunderton for 12 years, before coming up to milton keynes.

Hi spearoskiboy,
you can determine the length of the rubber by multiplying the distance from the band hole to the second notch by two and then dividing it by a coefficient raging from 3 to 3.5 where 3 is the longest possibility and 3.5 the shortest.
If the length is 130 cm your bands should be: 130x2=260 260/3=86.66 cm at the longest and 260/3.5=74.3 cm the shortest.
I hope you understand my bad English :)

thanks dobs,

that sounds about right, ive just phoned him to tell him what the length should be and he's going to try one out this afternoon if the weather stays settled,

many thanks,

as for you spearo, the tahiti was bought for when he lived in indonesia, plenty of fish the size of trucks there, i doubt you remembered but we asked you to post a picture on your gallery a couple of years ago and got no reply, nice going,

thats probally why we buy all our kit from spearfishinggear and scuba store not you.:duh

Hi I have bought loads of stuff from spearo.co.uk.Great stuff And great service.
By the way I am near Witney Oxfordshire.Being so far in land is a right pain but I still get in the water regularly.

I have to agree with Mr Penrith there, I buy most of my gear from spearo uk and everything has been spot on. Perhaps you should have another try.....?

God, talk about being ganged up on !,

ok i admit the sarcastic post saying that you dont need a 130 totem in cornwall really got my back up, i was just shocked to find a reply from spearo as i thought maybe he was dead as he never seems to reply to me or my mates mails,

anyroad up, spearo has nothing i need anymore i was actually after a C4 mono to cut to pieces to check the wall thicknesses etc,

atb to all,

Have you checked the C4 site for this info.?

http://www.c4carbon.com/

A lot of money to spend on a gun if you butcher it..rofl rofl Miles on this forum uses one maybe he can shed some light.........

i was going to make a better gun with an intergral muzzle and rail and cassette trigger unit, but got a bit dissenchanted when i found out how many other manufacturers there were in the foreign spearfishing mags,

the prototype would probally cost me in the region of 2k to complete !,

Its kinda of cheating using a RA example but it should work very nicely for your application, a rear handle gun is a rear handle gun , eh.

Good luck

With the international shortage of carbon fiber I bet the prices will be going up soon.If you need to know the thickness of something without destroying it find someone with an ultrasonic tester(UT machine). It will tell you the thickness and it will be pretty accurate.I think c4 has the only molded composite gun right now.Spearoskiboy don't giveup yet ,I found a website where this guy built his own cf race bike and it looked store bought.

You would need a carbon fiber calibration block, you'd be better off to remove the muzzle and using calipers ot gauge it.
