1st lam. finished

Well I finally got the laminating for my blue water gun finished, and it's drying as I type this.

Naw, I don't have that kind of budget. The 88 bucks for the mahogany was pushin it already...

I'm going to have a hard time waiting to get started too. luckly I have another gun to work on in the mean time. : )

Nice to see the progress, can't help but notice quite a bit of "sqeeze out" if its too much poxy (originally applied) no big deal, but if its too much tightening of the clamps you should take this into consideration on your next build...some builders add a 1/16 groove on each of the lams (as poxy wells) to strengthen and prevent sqeeze out...your clamps should be tight enough to hold the lams t/g but not too tight as to flush out the poxy...not a big deal (especially if you used west systems) but something to consider nonetheless...good luck

Thanks for the info. It was too much epoxy to begin with. I spread a layer over the entire surface of each piece, and only clamped them enough to stay put. There was really only squeeze out because of the amount I put on (I just wanted to be sure to fill anything that might become a gap). All of the clamps could be taken off with two fingers. I'll post the pics when I get to running it through the jointer/planer.

I use system three epoxy. Is there an advantage to west systems over sys.three?

I got the teak from the deck of an old boat so it was 100% FREE!

never heard of system three, but WS is some strong schmit, I kinda thought it was "overpoxy", the beaver has his work "cut" outrofl

You boys are doing a nice job & you are right about the cost of exotic woods!
While we are on the subject of laminating I have just stuck this one together.
I have used polyurethane glue to fix the laminates, this type of glue needs you to work fast & use high cramping pressure. The glue sets in 5 mins!
Once the laminating was complected & left to fully cure a grove was cut & the vertical center laminate inserted & glued with the same glue.

You can use lots of different configurations if you like - This is one I put together a few years ago.

Sure is a "T" section is very stable & resist bending in any direction.
