This is my first time building my own gun. I laminated two peices of oak on both sides of a piece of walnut. The stock is 48". I also made some wings out of bloodwood and mahagony. I purchased a riffe orignal kit. I was wonderning if it is better to install all the "guts" before coating the stock with Epoxy, or vice versa. Also, the kit did not come with any instructions so for anyone willing to give me some tips that would be greatly appreciated.

Yes install everything first then take everything out and give it the first coat, after it dries reinstall everything including the shaft, rubber, mech and reel or however ur gonna use the gun (u might need to chisel out some built up epoxy in the mech slot for the mech to fit properly) then take it to the water for balancing.
Then when uv figured out where u need to put the lead, come back to ur garage or shop pop open a beer, take everything off again and start opening up some holes in ur stock where needed to put the lead then reclose with a wood patch or just the easy way, epoxy over it. then u can start with the real finish and top coats.. about three to five coats of west systems with 24hrs dry time in between and a good fine sanding. Its also good to have the last two coats thinned for a smoother finish.
Thats basically a quick summary of building ur gun

Thanks to both of you guys. All the info is great and I'll be sure to post some pics of the finished gun after it's all done. I do have another qustion though. I was looking at a Riffe gun in a store and I noticed the the lamenation's where stacked on top of each other instead of side by side why is that?
Some laminate vertical and some horizontal.. it really doesnt matter all that much especially on smaller thinner guns but in my humble opinion i think its stronger when laminated side by side especially if ur building a bigger massy gun.
You can also do 'T' laminate.. example.. three side by side and one on the bottom horizontally.

It's kinda crazy, I never thought that building spearguns could be this intracit Now i'm even more excited about finishing this one so I can make another.
