I use to use one 16mm band, hated it! not enough power at the end of its range!
I now use two 16mm bands, very powerfull, good range, but a fair bit of recoil, makes me shoot lower than usual, quite annoying sometimes when i have to make a quick shot and cant compensate by aiming higher.
Would a thicker 18mm band be better, less recoil, still alot of strength and range power.
Or keep the two 16mm which is obviously alot more powerful, if so what are good technigues to stop recoil so aiming is normal or as close as can be to normal.
I use a Riffe 120 euro.

In very round numbers.
one 16 100%
one 18 126%
two 14 150%
two 16 200%

It sounds like you overpowered the gun. The easiest experiment is to use one 16 and one 14 or a longer 18.

As Bill suggested, sounds like a bigger single band would be worth trying. Sizes (diameters) are approximate, 18/19/20mm (I think my RA 20mm band is probably really USA 3/4" bulk rubber, which in theory at least, should be more like 19mm).

Also, as Bill mentioned, when you fit thicker bands they should normally be longer - so that you can load the darn things :). If you buy rubbers for your gun length (as apnea.co.uk sell them that way, for example), rather than by rubber length, the seller should take care of that for you. For bulk rubber, both Rob Allen & Rabitech publish helpful tables with their recommended lengths for the various rubbers they support.

I dont think ive over powered the gun as it meant to be able to handle 3 16s or 2 19s.
I like the sound of a thicker band, i think the thickest they sell here is 18mm, a 19/20 would be awesome!
Yes i would cut it to the right length! isit realy that much harder to load if its abit thicker?
if you were using a riffe euro 120, hunting very cautious fish wer even with a good aspeto you need a good range. what would you recomend??

thanks for feedback so far! Dom.

Hey Dom... I got Riffe Euro newly and i was looking in the specs of riffe on it is own webpage (Riffe International)... It is saying that for 120 cm gun u can use (2x 5/8" or 16mm) (2 x 3/4" or 19mm) (3x 9/16" or 14mm) bands which will give u a range of 7.3 meters Note: They did not say 3x 16mm bands... what i have now are two 14 mm bands i will change them to two 16mm and try the gun... All best

Right i see, well i only have two 16s, lots of range and power but the recoil is getting annoying, i can stop recoil by holding the back firmly with my non trigger hand, but that makes it harder to aim and takes more time to aim and position.
How are the two 14s working for you, good power?no recoil?

Dom.

Hey Dom did not try the 2 14mm bcoz i am used for guns up to 120 and 2 16 rubbers with no problem for me bcoz i am fat guy and i do not think i am bothered with recoil LOLz sometimes fat is good LOLz

Yes, I guess holding the gun firmly is important too. Foxfish found a good illustration of recoil on youtube (search for "recoil" or possibly "massive recoil") - all users of the rifle in question suffered bad recoil but the experienced shooters managed to at least control the worst of it, while the less experienced were knock on their butts. Bruised shoulders & cheeks are quite common for shot gun users that don't hold the gun firmly enough into their shoulder.

Having a bent elbow and/or loose grip could be a problem with a powerful speargun. Some say the mass of the speargun is important (as with fire-arms) but I guess the idea is that by holding it firmly enough, your own mass is used to absorb the recoil...rather than just the relatively small, light speargun.

lool at that Salehthefish, maybe i need some bigger arms!
No i can control the recoil just fine, but not wen taking quick shots, and even if i could during quick shots i dont want that much recoil if any at all.
I think i am going to try an 18 or 19 mm single band at the right length for my gun.

Mr. X thanks for the info, that illustration sounds great, ganna check it out and see if it helps me understand how recoil happens.

i used to use two 19mm bands that were really tight on that same gun and it shot great. i read some info on the internet suggesting that 5/8 bands were more powerful than 3/4 bands. something to do with the longer stretch acts on the spear for more of its travel equalling more force.kindof like a rubber band fight. we used to have them and the best bands to shoot were the long skinny ones, and not the short fat ones. the skinny ones actually hurt more. look into it. with two really tight 5/8 bands,(16mm) that gun will shoot like a rocket. just make them super tight.

Yes that is very true! i have two realy tight 16s on right now, it shoots like like a rocket fer sure! but its whats giving me a hell lot of recoil!

I am wondering how riffe designed them to give recoil... I suggest to contact them and ask this question bcos they r ppl with great experience And they would give the answer... For me it will b my first trial for the gun on this saturdAy and I will update u about the recoil...

All best buddy

That is a great idea, i will try and get in contact with them.
Let me know after your trial how it went.

Dom.

If your track was enclosed it would fix some of that whip you are getting it makes the gun more accurate eliminating shaft whip or recoil. The gun is light so if you tried one 20mm band or maybe two 9/16 bands that are an inch long than normal. This could help your problem.
