If you are interested in the following adventure, please also publicly post your thoughts and interest whether you can participate in this adventure currently, because I am also keeping open the idea of annual/bi-annual trips, and depending on number of interested persons, this could mean multiple yachts. A freediving convoy. So, your input today may encourage us and others to explore the possibilities for next year. Voice your interests of destinations, activities, experience, etc...

-------------------------

Hello everyone,

2 week tropical freediving/sailing adventure. $70 - $110 USD/day per person.

Tyler and Giovanni, are organizing a freediver dream vacation and we are currently looking for people who want to join in on the adventure. An adventure to tread where most land lubbers can't and to enjoy the marine environment entirely while living on it.

The Plan is to charter a sailing yacht in the tropics for at least 2 weeks, some time in and around the month of April and/or May, leisurely going from island to island, exploring exotic dive sites and attractions that the areas offer both at sea and on land.

Adventure:

The focus of the trip is to provide countless opportunities for freediving, line diving, spear fishing, sailing, line fishing, marine life encounters both inshore and in open ocean. There will also be time to spend ashore enjoying the tropics’ lifestyle and atmosphere. We will specifically seek opportunities to dive seamounts (underwater peaks) and far out reefs in search of exciting encounters with the most amazing sea life. All aboard will be crew sharing and responsible towards the daily activities required to run a yacht. Opportunity will be present for anyone to acquire seamanship and learn how to sail a yacht. The boat will have all the necessities to safely sail and live aboard comfortably.

Technical Details:

Tyler and Giovanni will be the dedicated technical crew and Giovanni will be skippering the yacht with Tyler. Giovanni has good credentials and experience in sailing and freediving in the tropics. He has sailed both as crew and skipper for about 15000 nautical miles on various sailing yachts mostly in tropical waters around the globe. Since he has dove and spear fished in the tropics extensively he has plenty of knowledge regarding tropical sea life and the risks associated with tropical underwater activities. Giovanni has spent many months at sea on yachts with no major incidents to himself or his shipmates. In addition Giovanni is a senior officer in the merchant navy and runs shipping vessels for a living.

Monetary Details:

The cost of chartering the boat will be shared equally and varies depending on the destination, boat size and number of people sharing the cost. For budgetary purposes, the target cost per person per day is about 70 to 110 USD per day and should include the boat, food, fuel and any other common cost like mooring. The airfare is on top of that respective to each individual participants requirements.

Booking Details:
The booking of yachts usually occurs many months in advance. Since April is the month chosen we are already late and will have to choose among the boat left over in the various charter boat destinations. At this time there are still some boats available out of Saint Lucia, Martinica, San Vincent and Saint Maarten in the southern Caribbean or in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. www.latesail.com shows a database of what is available worldwide. Depending on the number of people joining we will pick a boat between 36 and 46 feet long.
The next step is to find a minimum of 5 people committed to the adventure. At such a time, we will match the availability of everyone with the most suitable boat and destination. The process has to be prompt in order to find a suitable boat and airfare at decent prices.

Please contact Tyler to discuss the matter further, or post to the thread.
This is an opportunity that you don't want to miss. To do the same things via a commercial establishment would cost way more.

Cheers and look forward to hearing from you.

Fixed. :)
Sounds like a dream coming true Tyler, maybe one of those years I'll have the chance...
Good luck with getting it done, already anticipating the trip report and pictures. :)

Land Shark, but of course pirates are part and partial of any quality adventure, so we definately are anticipating the best experience we can muster there. :p We decided instead of purchasing one of those huge and expensive sonic blast devices, we are taking a 3 week course, myself in opera singing, and Giovanni in Inuit throat singing. Well prepared we shall be.

Michael, definately we will keep this thread reporting on progress and experiences. Glad to have you following them.

Everybody who is interested, please also publicly post your thoughts and interest whether you can participate in this adventure currently, because I am also keeping open the idea of annual/bi-annual trips, and depending on number of interested persons, this could mean multiple yachts. I have already received some private messages stating interest for the future.

Cheers,

Tyler

Gotta say that it DOES sound like the dream vacation but you are right about the timing. April is just around the corner and even finding a boat on short notice, getting past the boss with a 2-week-leave "kind request" may still be fruitless...

I can only say for the April crew - calm seas, great viz and lots of pelagic encounters - i will follow this threat as well and hope to be the one posting pics and stories on the next adventure :)

A second attempt, but certainly not the last...
