Where were you 20 years ago?
What was happening back then... a few reminders...

Peace and protest...

Well 1985 was the year I started spearfishing with my brothers gun, I had to sneak it out because our dad would have dissaproved rofl a daddies girl even at 25

The US Bicentennial? I must have been doing something along with trying to support wife and family in a dead-end job for the Fed. Wonder what it was . . .

OK - for both dates:
1976, Oldsarge reminded me, at that time I had a New England girlfriend and she took me to her families Bicentenial celebrations. I ended up wearing their grandfather's uniform...wig and all. She was from Cambridge, Mass., so no way I could escape! If I find the picture I'll scan and post it. I also graduated from college then.

1985, Was recently married and my son was one year old. Living in Spain. At that time I was still into bodysurfing and not honing my as yet unknown freediving skills, instinctively reserving that for when (most) of you babies would be able to converse intelligently about the subject. ;)

1985, a good year. Switching jobs from one that allowed plenty of time to dive to one that was 70 hours a week, lots of political hassle, which eventually forced me into taking a couple of years off to go sailing (and diving) and led to a business that belongs to me and allows a reasonable amount of time to dive and bodysurf.

1976, Still in grad school, but diving (and commercial spearing) a whole bunch.

Distinctly remember 2 things: Going with my father to see the Declaration of Independence. It was travelling the US in something called the "Freedom Train," an old Steam train, along with a lot of other historical stuff from the time. The second was watching Evil Knievel (sp) jump over a whole bunch of trucks with a motorcycle. 4 streakers that night-thought my mother was going to have a collapse as her son was watching the festivities.

1985
Working for my Uncle, same guys old sarge used to work for I think... living in a tent near a little village called Ma Jong Ni (aka warrior base camp).

in 1976 i was the fastest swimmer in a race.

It must have been an easter race as there were millions looking for the egg rofl

Hmmmm. I remember those eras!!
1976- 12 years unborn!! rofl rofl
1985- 3 years unborn!!!

Anyway, nice to read about the good old days of freediving! :)

Well if the 20 years ago stretches back as far as 76 then I too was of the spikey hair persuasion showing my stocking tops at the grand old age of 16 ;) I hated the new disco scene with a vengance :vangry I'd been scuba diving for a full year, it was the one of the hottest summers on record in the UK, my best friend now my husband spent the summer under the menai straits helping with an archaeological survey on one of the oldest recorded UK wrecks with hair that was elbow length rofl ah memories, now if only he had hair rofl

1976 - mmm... I was three... god knows what I was doing, probably trying to smother my new baby brother who was getting all the attention

1985 - well that's easy - I was 12, had just cut off my bum length blonde hair (it never grew back or I would look like Tanya!) because I wanted to look more like a boy and then got my ears pierced because people kept mistaking me for one... edge of puberty gender issues I guess.. my favourite hobby at that age was rowing around just above the mudbanks in a flat bottomed boat until all the tourists in their hire boats followed me, got stuck and then paid me to rescue them... they never noticed the skull and crossbones my brother and I (by then in cahoots and no longer trying to strangle each other) had hauled up the mast as a warning...

1976... Red, white & blue Jetfins, At Pacs and Lawnboy mowers!
My buddies at FSU would drink away all their money by Friday evening, so we never got to dive the Empire Mica wreck.

1985... 7 years into teaching diving, and married one of my students the year before. Zeagle BCs and the Edge dive computers were the rage!

What innovations will 2006 bring?

Resolutions: I'm going to do dive the Empire Mica before 2006 is over!

maybe we should do 20 years FROM now.... anyone wanna start????

me - living in paradise in the sun by the sea, slightly older yet still as aquatic.... few more wrinkles yet they come from the sunshine and smiling so that's ok.... surrounded by some kind of beautiful family and their "handsome in that older gent way" father....

diving without wetsuits because there is a pill you can take now that just keeps you warm with no side effects but otherwise still using the simple and age old techniques we use today..........

or still stuck in bristol watching grey skies out the window of my office..... god I hope not!

Pants!! I'll be 65!!
I'm going to be a kranky old woman and hit stupid people with my stick ;)

I'll be 71 and hobble out of your way he he...

40 years old... PHD in economics? Teaching, research, and doing a little consulting perhaps? Hopefully deeper blue will be around in 20 years so I can look back on this post and see how accurate my prediction was.
