Event Date -- September 10, 2005

The Rhode Island Picasso Open is the most generous spear fishing event held throughout the North Eastern United States each year. This year will be no different with $5000 in prizes that will be given to category and raffle winners. Prizes will be given in the following categories: Mens division, Womens division, Juniors division, and Largest fish.

Spear fishing is the only way to practice "Release before you Catch" rather than "Catch and Release" as is practiced by all other forms of fishing. A spear fisher is given the opportunity to select an individual fish and let the rest swim by, rather than stressing and endangering several fish until a suitable one is caught.

A Species Meet was created to determine the most proficient FreeDive Spear Fisher by establishing rules in which diversity, rather than total aggregate weight, of a catch will prove who the best really is.

************************************************** *****************

Rules:

1- Spear fishing by means of FREEDIVING. No tanks, re-breathers, or any other form of artificial breathing may be used!
2- Spear fishing in Rhode Island waters only.
3- All modes of transportation are allowed for this event.
4- Only spear guns loaded by the divers own strength are permitted. No powerheads / bangsticks.
5- Infractions of the above rules, posted Regulations, or unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification.
