Hi guys,
This year, once again i had to combine family vacations with my wife and spearfishing, i´ve already done this in 2006 when i visited St. Thomas & Prince, after this travel me and my wife were completely in love for Africa, so this year we decided to visit Mozambique and South Africa.
First of all I have to thank to my friend Nuno Dias from Rob Allen Mozambique ( http://www.roballenmoz.com ) he was more than great during our stay in Maputo and in Inhaca Island, Nuno besides being the official Rob Allen reseller for Mozambique also runs a spearfishing operation around Maputo and Inhaca so if any of you guys decided to go there you should really contact him, and he also make great deals in RA equipment...so...it’s all good!
As i said before this trip was much more than only spearfishing...to be honest I only speared 1 day, and you guys will for sure forgive me but I will show you much more than only spearfishing photos.
I went to Mozambique in mid August, dry season, but also winter and wind’s season, so not the best time of year for spearfishing. I also have to say that this was my second time spearfishing in Africa, and its not easy...i think that all those guys that write in forums saying that in Africa the fish is easy and everybody catches great fishes, have never been in Africa, at least spearfishing!
We leaved the Inhaca island dock around 7h30 AM and we went directly to the deeper waters that can be reached going through “hells gate” on the southern side of the island, going through hells gate can be as the name describes...and it was...the passing of the gate worth the day...it was pure adrenaline feeling the 90hp RIB climbing the waves...once again Nuno was great and proved to be a great skipper besides a great spearfisher!
As soon as you were through the channel and in to the blue waters the diving's begin...and for the first time I was diving and listening to the “singing” of Whales and we were lucky enough to actually saw 2 of them really close to us.
Well the rest was pure difficult spearfishing we used Rob Allen Carbon Railguns of 130 cm with reel and 160 cm connected to a float system.
And the result of the day:
As i said this trip to Moz & SA was more than just spearfishing, so for all of you thinking in go there I let you some pictures:
The check-in in the Inhaca Airport
The Carioca Bar in Inhaca (for +- 20 Euros you will eat the best sea food ever from oysters to lobster...and for 2 persons!) go there and ask for Armando he is the owner.
The Sunset in South Africa
And the result of a Safari in Kruger Park (South Africa)...lions, crocos, rinos, etc...in their natural habitat...simply wonderful IMHO
Hope you guys like the report!
Cheers,
Marco
