Toms Sietas go and get scared very fast !!!!

alexey did 200 meters in 2:20 min

Natalia did the same distance in 3:04 min

What a family....

:) and I can tell you she was fresh as a spring-flower... a wonderful competition with lots of potential from the ucrainian and russian finsswimmers. I hope in the future there will be more guests to competitions in Moscow. The organisation was very good and the Russians are really friendly.

Wow 200m ! Congrats to both Natalia and Alexey, very well done !
Natalia is certainly bridging the gap between the men's & womens records. :t

congratulations!!!
but i suggest from now on natalia will only be allowed to compete in the male category....(and she will kick asses anyways!)
come on, it's not fair! she makes the rest of us looking like beginners!!!
bill, what you think? can we do that for the tripledepth?

For those who can't read Cyrillic, I transcribed it yesterday to the Latin alphabet in the FreediveCentral forum:

[ame="http://www.freedivecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=109#5"]http://www.freedivecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=109#5[/ame]

PS: I typed it fast, so there are possibly some phonetic typos - it is not always evident when trying to transcribe Russian names into Latin alphabet

Wow, Russian might be a team to beat on the women's side with two women over 6 minutes. Are there any teams who have those numbers?

Amazing, Natalia, amazing!

Peter

I might get beaten up for this one but here goes anyway.....

I think Natalia is showing there is little reason to differentiate between men and women in freediving events. It is one of the great things about our sport and Natalia's achievements will help other women think "why not" and the gap will close further. I look forward to the day that we can claim real equality in our sport and stop disrespecting women by creating a special category for them...

I agree. Additionally, Natalia not only shows there is little (if any) difference between men and women, but also between young and old. Better told, one would almost tell the older the better :)

I think it is more important to respect the differences than to force the equality. I lived in a country based on "equality" and you see how it ended :head

At the end, I hope than most freedivers don't experience this sport through numbers because it isn't the best way to evaluate the Freediver - a person her/himself. :)

Once again, congratulations to the "longest DYN" family :wave

Well, there are undoubtly some slight differences between the two sexes, but as for freediving, I'd not be surprised if in future women surpass men. In all diving and freediving clubs I saw, the percentage of girls was much lower than at boys. And I was always surprised how the girls were usually performing well. If the female member base was as large as at males, I bet the female records would be much closer to those of men (if not higher).

Yes, I come from such a country too - we used to tell as a paraphrase of the official Marxist idea: "We are all equal. Though, some are more equal."

I believe that this could be realistic estimation. This brings another question, how to involve more girls to freediving?
