3ft Lobster found in Weymouth

thats a big lobster, don't know about putting it in the sea life park though, should let it go i think.

All I knew was "watch but dont touch" is it the divers motto or am I wrong?
In many countrys divers can't take out the water any fish or shells. Is it possible in England?

yeah big old brute there, but there was one in our aquarium for a few years which weighed over 12lbs... was hugggeee... was so big that it couldn't really support its claws, eventually died of old age about 8months ago

Huw.

yeah you can take all shell fish and crabs and lobsters if they are of the legal limit. i have caught lobsters and taken them home to eat

Although it seems like a shame to put it in an aquarium, if it had been left in the wild it would probably have been taken by someone, or disturbed by hundreds of people flocking to see it. Maybe if I see anything like that I won't tell anyone. ;)

I'll start to have a look around next week I miss theyr nice and smooth taste, when I was living in Miami I always get 2 or 3 in the net.

hey tony,
i have had a few lobsters from the wreck down here i brighton. and they do taste quite nice. doesanyone know if you can get the brown edible crabs here in brighton as i have never found one, or are the only in certain areas, like devon/cornwall for exmple,
josh

Edible crabs are all over the UK, so they will be there somewhere!! keep looking :D

Huw

cheers huw, i have found very small edible crabs which are a bit bigger than a normal green shorecrab and are too small to take, i want some of the bigger ones.

Thanks jwells, yeah it was a really really good dive, first I have had in a while, so it was brilliant to get back in. My buddy managed a mackerel which he was well chuffed with, it went past at a fair speed, but he tracked it well and planted the shot soundly. I also had a 4-5lb mullet which was ideal, and a smallish pollack which we ate last night with the mack. Really good fun, and we're hoping to get in tomorrow too.

I forgot to post my report, so i shall do that now, and hopefulyl post a picture later on :D.

Good luck with those crabs, perhaps ask the gurnsey boys over on their thread, i'm sure foxfish will let you know how its done :D

Huw.

thanks huw, well done for yesterday, the first fish i shot this year was a mackerel, big shoals of them on the beach.
wahts the vis like down in cornwall at the moment.

ahhh thats awesome... it was the first mackerel that my buddy had ever seen, perhaps only the second that i have. It was a lone fish, and attempted to take some sandeel that were surrounding us.

Vis yesterday was a minimum of 2m in all places reaching out to almost 6 in some when the sun was out. A really nice dive, and we covered alot of ground. We got off the boat over the sand flats and i scouted for some flatties... nothing though.

Found a small wreck in a cove and thats where I found the pollack... only 3m or so deep.

Hi Josh,
I had my first edible crab last sunday and was the first that I saw as well, usually there are a lot of spider crabs around here but the meat is not too much but they taste very very good.

well done tonyiannu for the crab, i will continue to look for them but i have a lot more luck with the lobsters.
good to hear someone is getting some good vis so well done huw, whats the wreck like that you found,
can't wait for some good weather.

I agree with you, that is something that i would not tell anyone if i found. I would just take lots of pictures.

Hey Josh,
better a lobster rather than a crab they are much better aren't they? I'd like to get a lobster around here but never seen one yet:head ,I'd like one specially for my missus she never had one :chatup .

The wreck wasn't in very good condition, just two large sides of a ship split and resting on the bottom, and then also what looked like a large triangilar strip resting on the bottom with holes all along it. Like i said, it was not deep at all, in fact i think some of it becomes exposed on a low tide. Next time i go past i may try and snap some pictures to post if you like.

i have heared that lobsters are better than crabs but thats probably down to perosnal preference. you will get one in the end tonnyiannu keep looking.
