5mm or 7mm wetsuit Guernsey March

Last year I was in the Guernsey waters in May spearfishing with a 5mm wetsuit and found the water a tad cold, im hoping to get in sometime in March and thought it might be worth getting a 7mm wetsuit.
Anyone got any views on 7mm wetsuits? i've heard its harder to move around in them.

It really depends what 7mm suit u are looking for.
If low budget suit, like Beuchat, Omer, Mares or something like that, they are pretty bad compared to custom made suits like Elios, InBlue or Oceanos etc...
Is use 2 InBlue suits - 5,5mm nylon outside/opencell inside and 8mm smooth out/opencell inside.
Smoothskin 8mm is really-really good, very comfortable! Way-way better than mass-production 7mm with nylon outside (ive used 7mm Beuchat Elaskin)

Conclusion - take 8mm smoothskin for cold water

Hi,
I have a 7mm Cressi Apnea and it feels great, very stretchy and warm with good movement. I have a 2mm all in one suit that is much easier to move in but I never expected a thicker material to fold the same.

Some of the off the peg suits that cost between £120 to £300 can give great performance especialy when most are performance cut.

There are some serious brands out that might be classed as low budget and most offer good value for money; and can be a good choice for those with less to spend, and a great choice for people lucky enough to have off the peg that fit well.

I can't say that I would have bought the same suit if my purse was bigger :waterwork (I don't actually use a purse ) but it is good for movement and I'm very happy with the purchase.

I looked at a few companies for custom 7mm and didn't feel that they offered the same value for money as they did for their thinner neoprene suits.

Hi Westcoaster, welcome to Deeperblue!
I use a 5mm suit all year round, but in the winter i now use a 3mm vest underneath [i use the omer vest from apnea jersey].
Also i use insulation tape on the wrists and ankles to prevent any flushing.
7mm does sound good tho! might need an extra kg of lead.

Hi westcoaster , welcome to db we have a Guernsey section on the forum too.
A custom made 7mm would be nice but I think most of us use custom made 5mm suits as Jonny suggest.

Cheers for all the responses on this, very helpful. I'm just under 6ft 5 tall, so when looking at what wetsuits there are around off the shelf, there's not many options for sizes that will go near me.
Where can i get a custom wetsuit made?, this might be the best option for me.

The one i was looking at which ticks all the boxes as as far as size goes is the Omer Black moon size T7.
