85 cm gun advice needed

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Spaghetti, sorry to hear about the stolen gun&fins Why don't you try to do an "agguato" and surprise the basterd next time? Leave the equipment on the beach and hide somewhere...
As for the question how long is the shot of a 100 cm twin-band gun, I second Spaghetty's opinion. Four metres is the average.

Hi Dave,
how about the Maori Mamba pneumatic?
Are they really as quiet as a rubber band gun?
Do they last long, and are spare parts available?

Thx m8

Mate have a look on their site.

At the end of the day most guns will do the job you are looking for but after 35 years of spearfishing my preference is with a mamba 90. However that is not to say it would be yours? I did find the change over from band guns a little tricky to start with but see no reason to change back now! Last year I used my 110 band gun a few times & caught fish! Just wasn't as much fun :martial

Hey Foxfish - what's the accurate range of your 90? How Does it compare with a 110 band gun?

I am probably just repeating myself but my 110 fitted with new single 20mm bands has nowhere near the power of my 90 air gun. However that is not the whole story, the 90 delivers its power in a far "cleaner" way or with very little drama compared to the 110. Just a lot smoother, quieter & faster.
I have some power compassion pics somewhere but have no time to post at the moment.

Righto - I do think you mentioned something about it before. I'm wondering how it would compare with two 16mm bands on a 110 . I was just on the Maori site and I see they are using 6.5mm shafts - good news since I've become partial to lighter shafts.

the mamba is a great gun and spare parts are available at maorisub and at dave (spearo.co.uk).... im a bit of a collector, so i was watching FOx's review on the 90 on DB and on medfish and got me one. one piece of advice though, if you do get one remember to always ge the kit manometro, which allows you to fill it up from the scuba taknk in 30 seconds, versus having to pump it 750 times and uin the middle foget your count deflate it and start pumping again youll build some good arms doing it though

Did you watch the video, one the divers is using a omer rekord, when coming up from the bottom I am under the impression that our medium hybrid has more push than the rekords. It took him quite a number of leg strokes to get moving.

hey strangelove,
obviously we are the smartest two on DB

There was an interesting thread going on at Medfish, so far it has been established that a 110 13mm piston mamba air gun throws its spear at 40 mts a second! A similar length double band gun = 30 mts a second.

I read this. I'm now thinking about getting one instead of the longer band gun I was planning on. I currently have a Riffe MT0 and an Omer cobra 90. Both have about the same range if the riffe has two 16mm bands. Ideally I'd like a gun about the same length as the cobra but with a meter or two more range.
A fast, light shaft is good.

Thanks to everyone for gun advice given!

In the end I went for the Beauchat Mundial Carbon Elite 1m gun.
My mate picked it up in Italy for me - damage approx £105.

Come October I'll have a full report as to how I fared with (maybe some nice fish pics as well)

Looks like Colin got one of the Rob Allen Europe URLs working again: European Spearfishing Supplies

BTW Is the spearline set-up & release the same on a Mamba as on a normal rubber gun? What are you doing to get the extra range - using a double wrap or a wrap & half (or free spearing!)?

Do you use a shorter speargun when spearing from a boat? One guy I met carried a 70cm, he had a small dinghy & 3 divers -- can't recall if the shorter speargun (he normally used a 90) was due to boat space or terrain tho'.

Does anyone know where to get a Mamba kit in the UK?
I cant see them advertised anywhere.

Vjanda, I dont know if you bought a gun or not yet... But if you looking for quality/price, maybe you should consider an Immersion concept pro or t4... it comes with a reel (although not that good); 6.5 or 7mm spear, 20mm black powerbands, and are in sizes from 75-150cm i guess. I think their prices should be btw 120-150euro...
