Until now Ive only shot a 40cm cressi pneumatic and had a brief play with a 60cm pneumatic the other day. I get plenty of good sized coral trout, crays, tusk fish, cod, emporer, sweetlip, jacks, trevally, barramundi (even got within shooting range of two spanish macks the other day but wasnt game to pull the trigger) with my little 40cm gun but I have to pump it up hard to get the range and the power. Its nearly 5 years old now and when I pump it up hard it leaks, so I decided to keep it pumped within specs and use it for crays only. I used a 60cm pneumatic for the first time the other day and nailed fish a lot easier then ever before, much better penetration and range and the gun was very much under pumped. With my 40cm gun I do a lot of stalking and waiting to get the fish and often follow them into holes etc, though with a longer gun Ill more so just be able to shoot them where they are.
Ive been out shooting with a mate and his band gun but I dont like it, rather stick with pneumatics. Ive looked around and Im keen on the cyrano evo hf, well actually Ive already ordered one in 90cm but Im not sure if I should just get the 110cm version.
My thoughts on the 90 was that it was still small for a gun, nice and manouverable and good for in holes and caves and being 6ft I should be able to load it without a extended loader. But then I thought I might be better with the extra range, accuracy and power of the slightly larger gun and figured 110 isnt that much bigger and its still much smaller then most bandguns used here. My thoughts were Id be better off using the 110 at a lower pressure to negate loading issues and for a quieter shot than using the 90 at higher pressures to make up power.
The vis here is 3-5m average and 10+ on a good day or out a little wider, spearing varies from around mangroves to reef to deeper bommies with the potential for mackeral and other pelagics.
Thoughts?
