Until now Ive only shot a 40cm cressi pneumatic and had a brief play with a 60cm pneumatic the other day. I get plenty of good sized coral trout, crays, tusk fish, cod, emporer, sweetlip, jacks, trevally, barramundi (even got within shooting range of two spanish macks the other day but wasnt game to pull the trigger) with my little 40cm gun but I have to pump it up hard to get the range and the power. Its nearly 5 years old now and when I pump it up hard it leaks, so I decided to keep it pumped within specs and use it for crays only. I used a 60cm pneumatic for the first time the other day and nailed fish a lot easier then ever before, much better penetration and range and the gun was very much under pumped. With my 40cm gun I do a lot of stalking and waiting to get the fish and often follow them into holes etc, though with a longer gun Ill more so just be able to shoot them where they are.

Ive been out shooting with a mate and his band gun but I dont like it, rather stick with pneumatics. Ive looked around and Im keen on the cyrano evo hf, well actually Ive already ordered one in 90cm but Im not sure if I should just get the 110cm version.

My thoughts on the 90 was that it was still small for a gun, nice and manouverable and good for in holes and caves and being 6ft I should be able to load it without a extended loader. But then I thought I might be better with the extra range, accuracy and power of the slightly larger gun and figured 110 isnt that much bigger and its still much smaller then most bandguns used here. My thoughts were Id be better off using the 110 at a lower pressure to negate loading issues and for a quieter shot than using the 90 at higher pressures to make up power.

The vis here is 3-5m average and 10+ on a good day or out a little wider, spearing varies from around mangroves to reef to deeper bommies with the potential for mackeral and other pelagics.

Thoughts?

Well I would say you need two guns but seeing that you already have a small gun I would strongly recommend a 100 air gun fitted with a dry barrel system. You can buy this one with a dry barrel kit factory fitted & it is a very potent gun with virtually no recoil & loads of power!!! Otherwise you can retro fit a kit to virtually any air gun.

I agree, if the shop sold a 100 in the evo hf I would have bought it! Seems the only two models released are the 90 and 110 though. Otherwise $ permitting I may have got a 90 and 120.....

The fact that mares, who in my opinion knows how to make spearguns, has not made the cyrano evo a dry barrel says something to me about the reliability of the technology of dry barrels.

I dont think Ill need any more power then the 110 could offer and would rather the reliability of a factory gun, in the future I could always install a dry barrel system.

Thanks for the reply, Ill have to let the company know today so Ill just get the 110 if I can.

Well you seem to know what you want
Dry barrel guns are not all about power though, the much reduced recoil, very quite shot & less working pressure required make an overall much more efficient gun.
I an still using my original Omer 90 Mamba dry barrel after 11 years.

Something to consider Ill post a review and hopefully some photos when the gun arrives.

I am guessing you are up North QLD ?
The 7mm spear may be to weak for your fish. Perhaps a cressi SL 100 or Mares 100 with the 8mm spear and better price?
Also those guns with tromics dry barrel kits are hammers.

I agree; the new vuoto air is worth considering.
Have the delivery time confirmed at Scubastore - so you don't get disappointed.

Yeah mate up Cape York Nth QLD.
Already ordered the 110 cyrano hf but still waiting for it to arrive. Went out on the weekend with a 90cm omer band gun (same length as the 110 cyrano evo hf) and cleaned up on trout, one jack, and plenty of other reefies. Only missed 2 fish all day! Certainly feeling as though the 90cm evo hf would have sufficed and be more manoeuvrable!

Looking forward to testing the 110 out when it comes, Im sure I wont be disappointed!
I will definitely consider a dry barrel kit!

I have the Evo HF 90 and the Evo HF 110. The 90 get used 95% of the time that I go out as the vis is not great where I spear
(3-5mt normally) and I just feel that the 90cm is that bit quicker to turn. Also I am a bit on the short side so need to use the extended loader on the 110 so this makes it just a little slower to reload. I also use a bit heavier spear with a tri cut point in the 90 and it seem
to have noticeably better penetration then using the standard spear. So there does not seem to be a massive different in power when I go from the 90 to the 110 as the 110 still has the standard spear.
How do you go spearing with all the Crocs up there. Giant reptiles make me very nervous.
