I always find it amusing that some will justify horrific actions with the 'It's traditional" argument.
In North America, the aboriginals use this for personal and commercial harvesting of whales, lobsters, fish, moose, deer, etc etc. As if a tradition of subsistence hunting even remotely resembled chasing a Grey Whale down with a GPS/Loran/Radar/Depthfinder-equipped powerboat, shooting the whale with a .50 Cal rifle, then selling the meat to the Japanese market :rcard ...or netting salmon in a river and selling them at the roadside :ban
When faced with this argument, my reply is something like, "Well, the tradition of my white ancestors was to enslave, torture, rape and commit genocide as well as all other crimes against nature and humanity....should I be allowed to carry on my tribe's traditions, or should I evolve?"
"Tradition" is not an argument unto itself- merely a justification, usually displaying a lack of actual reason/reasons for the behaviour.
Peace,
